Toronto bounces back to top Burgettstown
TORONTO — The Toronto baseball team put its first loss of the season behind it Thursday by getting back in the win column with a 7-5 victory over Burgettstown.
The Red Knights (6-1) had two hits and an RBI from Chase Heckathorn, a hit and three RBIs from Max Rebich, a hit and an RBI from Tanner Newbold and a double from Lucas Wiseman.
Jacob Parissi fired the first 4 1/3 innings on the mound with three strikeouts, while Gunnar Newbold got the win in relief and Michael Henry fired the last 1 2/3 innings to close things out, striking out two.
Toronto hosts Pittsburgh Carrick on Saturday.
Central falls at Shadyside
SHADYSIDE — The Catholic Central baseball team dropped a 6-1 decision on the road at Shadyside on Thursday, giving the Tigers a season sweep of the Crusaders.
Central (1-4) got two hits each from Zach Bryan, Matty Jones and Jojo Corabi.
Luke Bryan struck out five and walked one in taking the loss on the mound.
The Crusaders travel to Conotton Valley today.
SOFTBALL
Huskies fall to Beavers
CALCUTTA — Harrison Central struck first on the road at Beaver Local, scoring a run in the top of the first, but the Beavers plated the last four for a 4-1 victory.
The Huskies (6-4) run came on a solo homer Mikayla Pelegreen, who also had nine strikeouts in the circle.
Harrison Central is slated to host East Liverpool today.
