Edwards sets record in Big Red loss
STEUBENVILLE – Sadie Edwards added to her list of Big Red softball program records on Tuesday.
The Akron Zips commit hit a solo homer in Steubenville’s 13-5 loss to John Marshall at the Crimson Complex, putting her in sole possession of the program record for career home runs.
The homer was her fifth of the season. She also holds the single season mark, which she set last season.
The Monarchs, though, scored the game’s first 10 runs and did not look back in taking the victory in a key meeting of OVAC Class 5A tournament hopefuls.
Also for Big Red (8-3), Sagan Smarrella and Riley Zorne each plated a run. Edwards also struck out four in five innings of relief work in the circle.
Big Red will look to bounce back on Thursday when they travel to Oak Glen.
Weir High earns sweep of Brooke
WEIRTON — The Weir High softball team pulled away from rival Brooke on Tuesday night at home, 11-3, to earn a season sweep of the Bruins.
Eliza Utt tossed six innings with nine strikeouts and no walks while hitting three doubles, a single and driving in three runs at the plate.
Lila Boilegh had a double and a single and Bella Weber and Brynn Artman each had two hits and an RBI for the Red Riders (10-3).
For Brooke (6-10), Eden McKinney had two hits and two RBIs and Jazmyn Wood drove in a run.
Brooke hosts Martins Ferry on Friday, while Weir High visits Wheeling Park today.
Panthers top Crusaders
STEUBENVILLE — The Buckeye Local softball team moved back above the .500 mark with a 20-8 win on the road at Catholic Central on Tuesday.
For the Panthers (6-5) Emma Vitek had five RBIs, Danika Bauknecht four RBIs and Karlie Lander three while also being the winning pitcher seven strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings and not issuing a walk.
Gracie Free had three RBIs for the Crusaders (0-11).
Central visits St. Clairsville today, while Buckeye Local takes on Indian Creek today.

Edison wins long, high-scoring game at Weir
WEIRTON — The Edison baseball team outlasted Weir High, 16-7, Tuesday in a game that took over four hours to complete.
The Wildcats, now 6-2, scored five runs in the top of the first and never trailed.
Kayden Russell tripled, singled and drove in three runs, Nolan Haught had a double, two singles and three RBIs, Brady Haught and Xander Haught each drove in two runs, Bryce Rogers doubled in two runs and Kyle Long had a double and a single for Edison.
For the Red Riders (6-9), Aleks Zanieski had a double and two singles, Nico Glass had a double, single and two RBIs, Matt Geer had three hits and two RBIs, Nick Dimatteis had a double and an RBI, Liam Williamson had a double and an RBI and Cayden Braswell knocked in a run.
Weir visits Clay-Battelle today, while Edison hosts Buckeye Local on Thursday.
Madonna falls to Monroe
WEIRTON — The Madonna baseball team dropped a 9-3 decision to visiting Monroe Central on Tuesday.
The Blue Dons (5-4) got two hits from Maddox Bowen, a double and an RBI from Sam Brooks and two hits and an RBI from Luke Wingett.
Madonna hosts River on Saturday.
