Big Red bounces back with a big win
STEUBENVILLE — AJ Borsch delivered a gem on the mound and the Big Red baseball team bounced back with a big, 2-1 victory over visiting Indian Valley on Thursday evening at the Crimson Complex.
Borsch tossed a complete game three-hitter with seven strikeouts and five walks, helping Big Red improve to 8-3.
Big Red scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first and the right-hander made the lead stand up, putting up zeroes from the fourth inning on.
After Cole Bowers was hit by a pitch, Matt Fabbro ripped an RBI triple to right field to make it 1-0, then scored when Nolan Blackburn put the ball in play an at bat later.
Rocco Nocera also had two hits in the game for Steubenville, while Jonathan Wineman had a base knock.
Big Red has the weekend off before visiting Weir High on Monday evening.
Red Knights flood River
TORONTO — The No. 1 ranked Toronto baseball team added a victory to its tally on Thursday, topping visiting River 10-2 at the KBC.
Toronto, now 9-2, got a double, single and three RBIs from Heath Thomas, two hits and an RBI from Michael Henry, an RBI each from Caden McGrath, Drake Bouscher, Chase Heckathorn, Max Rebich and Lucas Wiseman and a triple and single from Gunnar Newbold.
Henry tossed the first six innings, striking out four and walking one.
The Red Knights play Ironton on Saturday in an event at Chilicothe.
Bears edge the Tigers
SHADYSIDE — The Oak Glen baseball team battled back and then held off Shadyside for a 6-5 road win on Thursday.
The Golden Bears (6-12) plated five runs in the top of the fifth to erase a 4-1 hole and take the lead, then held off the Tigers.
James Rohbeck had a double and two RBIs, while Luke Buckler doubled and Cam Carter, Christian Chappell and Kaden Dragisich each had an RBI.
Dragisich earned the win on the mound in relief, firing the last 3 2/3 innings.
Oak Glen visits East Liverpool on Tuesday.

Brooke gets big win over the Huskies
WELLSBURG — The Brooke softball team battled past visiting Harrison Central for an impressive 7-5 victory at home on Thursday.
The Bruins (8-10) struck first and opened a 5-1 lead through four innings on the way to topping the Huskies (10-5).
Eden McKinney had two doubles, a single and two RBIs, while Gabby Hornick had two hits, Maggie Diserio had a double and Jazmyn Wood, Emma Bober and Avary Martino each had an RBI.
Avery Rado was the winning pitcher with a complete game effort, allowing just two earned runs with one strikeout and no walks.
For the Huskies, Emma Jarvis had a double and a single and three RBIs, while Bailey Smith, Delaney Stull, Kara Blackburn and Lillian Thomas each had a double and Kam Crothers drove in a run.
Mikayla Pelegreen struck out five an walked four in six innings in the circle.
The Bruins host Martins Ferry today, while Harrison Central visits Weir High.
