Owens ties own record in Madonna win

WEIRTON — Madonna standout Madi Owens’ run of showing off her power continued on Monday.

Owens blasted a her 11th homer of the season in a 16-0 win over Jefferson County Christian at Starvaggi Park, tying her own program record set last season.

She also had a triple and finished with five RBIs in the game. She had homered in three-straight games and four of the last five games.

Also for the Blue Dons, Peyton Conley was 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Kendal Ryan had two hits and three RBIs and struck out eight without walking a batter in the cirlce, Geena Birkhimer had two hits and Tina Littleton drove in a pair of runs.

Madonna, now 13-3, hosts Brooke today.

Big Red gets big win

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red softball team ended a three-game slide with a big, 10-3 win over visiting Harrison Central on Monday at the Crimson Complex.

Steubenville (9-5) jumped out early with four runs in the bottom of the first and did not look back.

Sadie Edwards tripled and singled, Sophia Zorne had three hits and two RBIs, Joslynn Waugh had a double, single and an RBI and Emily Tuttle doubled, singled and drove in a run.

Isabella Cadile struck out six and walked two in the circle.

For the Huskies (12-7), Mikayla Pelegreen had two hits, K Crothers doubled in two runs and Jaylin Ward tripled.

Red Riders blank Barnesville

WEIRTON — The Weir High softball team picked up another key victory on Monday, making it three-straight over teams in the OVAC tournament hunt by blanking Barnesville 8-0 at home.

Eliza Utt blasted a homer, had a single and drove in a pair of runs while striking out seven and not issuing a walk in a complete game, two-hit shutout.

Lila Boilegh and Zoe Spencer each had a double, single and an RBI, Brynn Artman doubled in two runs and Bella Weber went 3 for 3.

The Red Riders, now 13-5, travel to Linsly on Wednesday.

Red Knights come back to stun Panthers

TORONTO — The Toronto softball team battled back to force extra innings on Monday, stayed alive after visiting Buckeye Local had taken a lead in the eighth and then walked-it-off for a comeback, 9-8 victory over the Panthers.

The Red Knights (8-6) got the winning hit from Gracie Ruberto in the bottom of the ninth.

Anna Wright had a triple, single and two RBIs on the day, Arianna Highsmith tallied three hits, including a double, and two RBIs and Jaylee Brown recorded a triple, single and two RBIs.

For the Panthers (7-6), who led 6-0 in the second inning, B Russell had a triple and two RBIs, Danika Bauknecht tallied a double, single and an RBI, P Palmer had a double and an RBI and Frankie Sawko doubled.

Toronto visits Bridgeport today while Buckeye Local hosts Catholic Central on Thursday.

Bruins blank Central

WELLSBURG — The Brooke softball team rolled to a 15-0 win over Catholic Central on Monday.

The Bruins (10-12) got a homer and three hits from A Rado on her way to finishing with four RBIs, while Gabby Hornick drove in two runs and doubled, A Martino doubled, single and plated three runs and Eden McKinney had a double and a single while striking out six with no walks in a one-hit shutout in the circle.

Mia Doyle had the lone hit for Central (0-16).

The Bruins visit Madonna today while Central hosts Wellsville on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Madonna grounds the Jets

BELMONT — The Madonna baseball team rolled to a 9-3 win on the road at Union Local on Monday.

The Dons (6-6) got two doubled and two RBIs from Jacob Lazear, a double and a single from Evan Kaczmarek and two hits each from Maddox Bowen and Reno Fuscardo.

Connor Lancaster went the distance for the win on the mound.

Madonna hosts the Jets in a rematch on Thursday.

Crusaders fall to Wheeling Central

STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central baseball team dropped a 21-2 decision to visiting Wheeling Central on Monday.

The Crusaders (2-8) got an RBI each from Zach Bryan and Andrew Napoli.

Central hosts Wellsville on Wednesday.
