Crusaders break through on senior night
STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central softball team rallied for a walk-off win on senior night, giving the Crusaders their first win of the season in dramatic fashion.
Central (1-16) trailed by four runs going to the bottom of the seventh inning against visiting Wellsville on Wednesday night and plated five runs to storm back and claw the Tigers, 14-13.
Miriam Free’s RBI single provided the winning hit. It was her second hit and third RBI of the game.
Gracie Fink had four hits, including two doubles, Lexi Lathem, who crossed home plate on Free’s knock to end the game, had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs, Mia Doyle had two RBIs, Mary Fink had two hits and Evie Zeigler doubled, singled and drove in a run.
Central is scheduled to visit Buckeye Local today.
Owens homers again, Madonna tops Toronto
WEIRTON — The Madonna softball team got two more homers from junior standout Madi Owens on Wednesday, leading the way to a 10-1 win over visiting Toronto at Starvaggi Park.
Owens, who broke her own program record on Tuesday, now has 14 homers on the season, which leads all players in the state of West Virginia this season. She finished with four RBIs, adding to her state-leading total and putting her over 40 on the season.
Also for Madonna (15-3), Geena Birkhimer doubled and drove in two runs, Kendal Ryan tallied a single, double and two RBIs and Peyton Conley went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI while Elaina Foresha also drove in a run.
Ryan struck out four and did not walk a batter in a five inning complete game in the circle.
Jaylle Brown had two hits, including a double, and the lone RBI for the Red Knights (9-7).
Madonna visits Cameron on Friday, while Toronto is slated to host Linsly today.
Weir falls at Linsly
WHEELING — The Weir High softball team dropped a tough, 7-6 decision on the road at Linsly on Wednesday.
The Red Riders (13-6) led 5-0 after the top of the third inning but Linsly scored seven of the next eight runs to come back and earn the victory.
Eliza Utt had a double and a single while striking out four and walking two in the circle. Only two of the seven runs against were earned.
Bella Weber had two hits and two RBIs, Loganne Barton had two hits and an RBI, Illiona Kirlangisits tallied two hits and Zoe Spencer, Lexi Shockley and Chelsea Devore each drove in a run.
Weir looks to bounce back host East Liverpool today.
Brooke falls at JM
GLEN DALE — The Brooke softball team dropped a 6-3 loss on the road at John Marshall on Wednesday.
The Bruins (10-13) got a double and two RBIs from Eden McKinney, a triple from Maggie Diserio and an RBI from Jazmyn Wood.
Brooke hosts Cambridge today.
Panthers down St. C
CONNORVILLE — The Buckeye Local softball team plated five runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn a run rule win over visiting St. Clairsville, 11-1, at home on Wednesday.
Danika Bauknecht doubled and Karlie Lander, Bella Russell and Emma Vitek each had an RBI, Vitek finishing with two hits.
Lander struck out seven and did walk walk a batter in a complete game two-hitter.
The Panthers (8-7) host Catholic Central today.
Huskies top Barnesville
CADIZ — Harrison Central’s softball team plated five runs in the bottom of the fifth to storm back for a 5-3 win over visiting Barnesville on Wednesday.
The Huskies (13-7) got an RBI each from Mikayla Pelegreen, Kara Blackburn and Kamryn Campbell in the victory.
Pelegreen fired a 10-strikeout performance in the circle and did not allow an earned run.
The Huskies visit Edison today.
Oak Glen falls to Park
NEW MANCHESTER — The Oak Glen softball team dropped a close 5-3 contest to visiting Wheeling Park on Wednesday.
After the Golden Bears (13-6) led 2-1 and 3-2, the Patriots plated the last three runs to take the win.
Oak Glen’s Neveah Heath blasted a homer and had two RBIs, Kylie Robinson had two doubles, Mattie Carney doubled and Kynslee Landess had an RBI.
Carney struck out eight and did not issue a walk.
The Bears visit John Marshall today.
BASEBALL
Toronto rallies to top Oak Glen
NEW MANCHESTER — After Oak Glen had taken a six run lead early, the Toronto baseball team rallied back to win with eight of the next nine runs for a comeback, 9-8 victory on Wednesday.
Caden McGrath had a double, two single and an RBI, Michael Henry had three hits, including a double, JJ Rebich had a triple, single and two RBIs and Heath Thomas drove in a run.
For Oak Glen, Kaiden Dragisich had a triple, single and an RBI, Camm Dittman had a double and two RBIs and Noah Willey had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs while Sam Jenkins tripled.
Toronto (12-3) hosts Buckeye Local today, while Oak Glen (7-13) visits East Palestine on Friday.
Creeks drops first loss
GNADENHUTTEN — The Indian Creek baseball team suffered its first setback of the season Wednesday, dropping a close 5-4 decision on the road at Indian Valley.
The Redskins (12-1) took a 3-1 lead in the third inning, but a three-run Braves sixth propelled them ahead for good.
James Brothers blasted a solo homer and Sylus Hyde and Luke McVicker each had an RBI in the loss.
Creek will look to bounce back today visiting Brooke.
