Contributed WIN IN A BIG LEAGUE PARK — The Madonna baseball team got to play at PNC Park on Friday afternoon.
PITTSBURGH — The Madonna baseball team had a memorable Friday afternoon.
The Blue Dons took a trip up Route 22 and competed at PNC Park, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and came away with a walk-off win.
Madonna defeated Charters-Houston, 5-4, on Maddox Bowen’s walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning, his second hit of the day.
“Today was truly an awesome experience for our boys,” Madonna head coach TJ Miller said. “To get the opportunity to play at PNC Park and successfully earn a win while there is something the boys will always remember. I am very proud of how all the boys played today, and I hope they cherish this experience forever.
“A big thank you to coach (Luke) Myers for helping set this all up and the Madonna school administration and community for the tremendous support today. It was great seeing everyone there supporting the boys. As enjoyable and amazing this experience was for our team, we are back to work tomorrow with one week left until Regionals.”
The Blue Dons improve to 10-8 on the season.
In addition to Bowen’s big hit, Sam Brooke had a triple, single and two RBIs, Evan Kaczmarek had a double, single and two RBIs and Jacob Lazear doubled.
