Brooke rallies to open tourney with a win
WELLSBURG — After falling behind by three runs, the Brooke softball team rallied back with the game’s last seven runs to open the Class AAA Region 1 tournament with a 7-3 victory over Grafton on Tuesday.
The Bruins (16-14), the No. 2 seed, fell behind 3-0 in the top of the fourth, but scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead and added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to top the third-seeded Bearcats.
Grafton will take on East Fairmont in an elimination game today, the winner coming back to Brooke later in the week. the Bruins need one more win to reach the state tournament.
Eden McKinney had a pair of extra base hits and two RBIs for the Bruins, hitting a double and a triple. Jazmyn Wood had two hits, while Emma Bober doubled and drove in a run and Avary Martinez had two hits and an RBI. Avery Rado and Gabby Hornick each had an RBI.
In the circle, Rado had three strikeouts and did not walk a batter in a complete game. Only one of the runs against was earned.

Huskies win and advance
CADIZ — The Harrison Central softball team overcame letting the lead going away and battled back with a three-run sixth inning, pulling away to top Morgan 5-2 in the Division IV, East District tournament on Tuesday.
The Huskies (17-8), the No. 4 seed, move on to take on No. 6 Carrollton in the district semis.
Harrison Central got a double and an RBI from Mikayla Pelegreen, who also struck out nine in a complete game victory in the circle.
Lillian Thomas had two RBIs, while Kam Crothers and Emma Jarvis each drove in a run as well.
Creek falls at Meadowbrook
BYESVILLE — Indian Creek’s season came to an end with a 17-1 loss to Meadowbrook in the opening round of the Division IV, East District tournament on Tuesday.
Senior Riley Sadler finished her high school career with a solo home run in the game, while Olivia Hollenback also had a base hit.
Creek, which was the No. 13 seed, finishes the season at 6-19. Meadowbrook, the No. 3 seed, moves on to take on No. 5 West Holmes in the district semis.

BASEBALL
Big Red tops St. Clairsville
STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red baseball team made it wins on back-to-back days, topping visiting St. Clairsville 6-2 on Tuesday evening at the Crimson Complex.
Steubenville (14-9) took control early with a four-run bottom of the second inning and it proved to be more than enough.
Cole Bowers had a double and a single, AJ Borsch doubled and drove in two runs while Royal Mayo, Jaggar Rawson and Matt Fabbro each drove in a run and Karson Simmons had two hits.
Borsch got the start on the mound and fired 6 1/3 innings, striking out seven and walking six. Freshman Chase Beall came on and got the final two outs for a save.
Big Red heads on the road to Edison today.
Edison edges Creek
MINGO JUNCTION — The Edison baseball team rallied with a three-run fifth inning to edge rival Indian Creek on the road Tuesday, 5-4.
Creek (17-7) took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second and led 4-2 after four before the Wildcats (14-6) rally.
For Edison, Brady Haught had two hits, JD Henderson had a double and Evan Kimmerle, Bryce Rogers and Santino Auteri each had an RBI.
Rogers fired 6 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking five in the win on the mound. Kyle Long got the final two outs.
For Creek, Adam Brothers and Max Lane each had two RBIs, while Silus Hyde took the loss on the mound, going 4 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and five walks. Brothers fired the final 2 1/3 innings.
Edison returns home today to host Big Red, while Creek visits St. Clairsville today.
Bruins blank Shenandoah
WELLSBURG — The Brooke baseball team blanked visiting Shenadoah on Tuesday, 4-0, to close the regular season with a win.
Brooke (14-17-1) has now won four in a row and five of the last six games headed into tournament time.
Andrew Murdock and Geno Provenzano each had a double and an RBI, while Aiden Provenzano and Zac O’Mery also doubled and Blaine Beatty had an RBI.
Parker McMahon went the distance on the mound, striking out seven with no walks and limiting the Zeps to two hits.
Brooke will open regional play next week.
