Red Riders victorious to cap regular season

GLEN DALE — The Weir High baseball team got off to a fast start then held on to defeat John Marshall, 7-6, on the road in the regular season finale on Thursday.

The Red Riders close the regular season at 15-16 and begin regional action on Monday.

Weir jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning against the Monarchs, got a run each in the fifth and sixth and fended off a JM rally in the bottom of the sixth at four runs to stay in front.

Nick DiMatteis had a triple, Matt Geer had a double, single and an RBI and Kason Lash and Garrett Pettit each plated a run for the Red Riders.

DiMatteis tallied three strikeouts in the first 5 2/3 innings and Lash came on and finished things off firing the last 1 1/3.

Madonna finishes regular season with a win

WEIRTON — The Madonna baseball team won its regular season finale on Thursday in a high-scoring contest at Bowman Field, 17-10 over visiting Magnolia.

Jacob Lazear had a triple, double, single and two RBIs, Sam Brooks had a double, two singles and three RBIs, Evan Kaczmarek had a double, three singles and three RBIs, Connor Lancaster had a triple and an RBI, Maddox Bowen had a double and Luke Wingett also drove in a run.

Madonna scored two runs in the each of the first two innings, fell behind 6-4 in the fourth and scored six runs in the bottom half of the inning to surge ahead, plating 13 runs over the final three innings to pull away.

The Blue Dons head to tournament time with a record of 12-9. They begin Class A regional play on Tuesday hosting Clay-Battelle.

Indian Creek makes it back-to-back wins

MINGO JUNCTION — The Indian Creek baseball team made it wins on back-to-back days, topping visiting Martins Ferry 8-3 on Thursday at Muth Field.

The Redskins (19-7) got two hits and two RBIs from Sylus Hyde, a double and three RBIs from Luke McVicker, two hits from Adam Brothers and an RBI knock from Max Lane.

Lane and Garrin Clark combined on the mound, Clark getting the win in relief firing the final 4 1/3 innings striking out three and not allowing a hit.

Creek plays Harrison Central next week before they begin tournament action.

Huskies, Red Knights tie after game ended in extras by medical situation

CADIZ — Harrison Central’s second game against Toronto in as many days was halted in extra innings after a medical situation with a Huskies player. The game was tied 3-3 in the eighth.

Harrison Central’s baseball account posted on social media on Thursday evening that their player “Is OK, he’s a tough one.”

The Huskies had won the first meeting in Toronto on Wednesday, 3-2.
