Softball district tournament pairings are set
STEUBENVILLE — The local Ohio softball team learned their postseason fates Sunday afternoon.
Big Red is the No. 2 seed in the Ohio Division III East/Southeast District. Big Red will be taking on No. 3 seed Tri-Valley at 5 p.m. May 13 at home up at the Crimson Complex in East/Southeast District 2. The winner will play a team from the Southeast District in the district final.
In East/Southeast District 1, No. 5 seed Zanesville will take on No. 4 seed New Philadelphia at 5 p.m. Monday on the road. The winner of that game will take on No. 1 seed Dover in the district semifinals at 5 p.m. May 13 at Dover. The winner of that game will play a team from the Southeast District in the district final.
Indian Creek and Harrison Central will be competing in the Division 4 Eastern District Tournament. The Huskies are the No. 4 seed, and the Redskins are the No. 13 seed with both local teams playing in the East 2 District.
The district quarterfinals will all be held at 5 p.m. May 12 at the higher seeds field, the semifinals will be held at 5 p.m. May 18 at the better seed’s field and the district final is set for 5 p.m. May 20 at a site to be determined.
Indian Creek will open up postseason play against No. 3 seed Meadowbrook in a district quarterfinal on the road. The winner of that game will take the winner of the game between No. 5 seed West Holmes and No. 14 seed St. Clairsville in the semifinals. The Red Devils will take on the Knights in the quarterfinals on the road.
Also in the quarterfinals, No. 6 seed Carrollton will take on No. 7 seed Indian Valley at home, and Harrison Central will play No. 11 seed Morgan at home. The winner of the games featuring the Warriors and Braves and the Huskies and the Raiders, will meet in the semifinals.
The winners of the two semifinals will meet in the district final at 5 p.m. May 20 at a site to be announced.
Beaver Local is the No. 1 overall seed, and the Beavers will be competing in the East 1 District Tournament. Beaver Local will be taking on No. 15 seed Philo in the district quarterfinals at home. The winner of that game will play the winner of the game between No. 8 seed Minerva and No. 9 seed River View in the district semifinals. The Lions will play the Black Bears at home.
In the other quarterfinals, No. 8 seed Minerva will be playing No. 9 seed River View, No. 12 seed Maysville will be playing No. 12 seed Cambridge and No. 2 seed John Glenn will be playing No. 16 seed East Liverpool at 5 p.m. The winners of those two games will meet in the district semifinals.
Edison and Buckeye Local will be competing in the Division V Eastern District Tournament. The Wildcats are the No. 4 seed, and they will be competing in the East 2 District Tournament. The Panthers are the No. 9 seed, and they will be competing in East 1 District Tournament.
The district quarterfinals will be played at 5 p.m. Monday at home at the higher seeded team’s field with the higher seeded team hosting the semifinals at 5 p.m. May 18. The district final is set for 5 p.m. May 20 at a site to be determined.
Edison will be playing No. 7 seed Claymont in the quarterfinals out at the Edison Unified Sports Complex with the winner of that game taking on No. 3 seed Ridgewood in the semifinals. In the other quarterfinal, No. 5 seed West Muskingum will play No. 11 seed Fairless in the quarterfinals with the winner of that game taking on No. 2 seed Martins Ferry in the semifinals.
In East 1 play, Buckeye Local will play No. 12 seed Union Local at home with the winner of that game set to take on No. 1 seed Tuscarawas Valley in the semifinals. In the other quarterfinal, No. 6 Sandy Valley will play No. 10 seed Coshocton with the winner of that game playing No. 8 seed Barnesville in the semifinals.
There are no local teams competing in the Eastern District Division VI Tournament. Garaway is the No. 1 seed in that tournament.
Toronto and Catholic Central will be competing in the Division Eastern District Tournament. The Red Knights are the No. 7 seed, and the Crusaders are the No. 10 seed with both teams from Jefferson County competing in the East 2 side of things.
The district quarterfinals are scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. Monday at home at the higher seeded team’s field with the semifinals being held at 5 p.m. May 19 at the higher seed’s field. The district final is scheduled to be played May 21 at a site to be determined.
Toronto will play No. 3 seed River in the quarterfinals on the road. The game is slated to be the fourth meeting between the two team’s this season. The Pilots have defeated the Red Knights twice the season with one win coming at home and the other coming in the OVAC Class 2A Semifinals. The two teams are scheduled to play today at 5 p.m. at Toronto at Michael Simpson Park.
The winner of the district quarterfinal game will take on No. 1 seed Caldwell in the semifinals. Catholic Central is set to play No. 4 seed Conotton Valley in the semifinals.
In East 1, No. 2 seed Strasburg will be taking on No. 9 seed in the quarterfinals with the winner of that game taking on No. 8 Tuscarawas Central Catholic in the semifinals. Bridgeport – the No. 5 seed – will take on No. 6 seed Frontier in the semifinals.
