Post 33’s return season ends

MARIETTA -- The Steubenville Post 33 American Legion baseball team’s first season back on the diamond after a two-summer hiatus came to an end on Thursday.

Post 33 dropped its second game of the Ohio American Legion Region 4 Tournament via the run rule to defending state champion Beverly-Lowell Post 389/750 in the second round at Marietta College.

The loss was Post 33’s second in the double-elimination tournament, bringing their season to a close with an 0-11 mark.

Kole Yourkovich, Joseph Vranish, Jace Wojtas and Kyle Coldanato each had a base hit for the youthful Steubenville squad.

Vranish also pitched the last 3 2/3 innings for Steubenville, striking out two. Patrick Jenkins started and took the loss. Jason Westlake also tossed 2/3 of an inning.

Beverly-Lowell advances to rematch St. Clairsville Post 159 in the loser’s bracket final. St. Clairsville defeated Beverly-Lowell on Wednesday and then fell to Cambridge-Belle Valley Post 84/641, 8-4, in winner’s bracket action Thursday.

The winner of the regional tournament advances to the state tournament.
