STEUBENVILLE -- Miscues leading to a big inning have been a thorn in the side of the youthful Post 33 baseball team all summer.
On Saturday, St. Clairsville Post 159’s older, more experienced ball club was able to take advantage of both.
The visitors from Belmont County took full advantage of five Post 33 errors in a 17-run third inning, turning what had been a 5-1 lead into a 22-1 victory on Fred Heatherington Field.
Post 159 (10-6) opened up a 2-0 lead on the top of the first, but Post 33 (0-9) responded in the bottom half with a Kyle Coldanato two-out RBI single to cut the margin in half, scoring Jonathan Wineman who had doubled.
From there, though, St. Clairsville’s pitching combination of Ford Hughes and Dylan Blon kept Steubenville from recording another hit while the Post 159 bats got going.
St. Clairsville tacked on three runs in the top of the second before the explosion of runs in the third.
Eli Smith had a double, single and three RBIs, Kade Koroneos had a double, single and two RBIs, Jaxon Starks doubled in a run and Caiden Bailey and Niko Jacob drove in two runs each.
Post 33 will look to get in the win column today hosting Power Baseball Club out of Richmond at 6 p.m. In their regular season finale.
Post 159 has wrapped up its regular season and begins Region 4 tournament play on Tuesday.
