Brooke looks to put first loss in the rear view with trip to Beaver

CALCUTTA -- After suffering its first loss of the season, a tough 15-6 loss to Indian Creek last week, the Brooke football team will have its first chance to show its ability to bounce back this week with a trip to Beaver Local.
The Beavers are another Buckeye 8 Conference foe for the Bruins, who are 2-1.
Beaver Local, guided by longtime high school football coach in the Ohio Valley Mike McKenzie, enter the contest with a record of 4-1 and are also coming off their first loss of the season last week, 33-27 in overtime to Salem at home.
The first four weeks of the campaign the Beavers defeated Crestview (35-14) at home and then won three-straight road games at Western Beaver (Pa.) (28-13), St. Clairsville (35-21) and rival East Liverpool (28-7).
They are averaging 30.6 points per game and allowing an average of 17.6.
Beaver Local is solidly in the Ohio playoff picture, sitting ninth in Division IV, Region 15.
The Bruins, on the other hand, will look to get back to the offensive output they had in their first two games when they scored 46 and 56 points in wins over Lincoln County and Cambridge before four turnovers hurt their efforts last week against Creek, who is one of the teams trying to chase down a playoff spot in Beaver Local's region.
The Bruins passing game led the way in their two wins as, despite being held under 100 yards last week, Kamden Sperringer has 538 yards on the season with eight touchdowns.
Grant Yost remains his top target, hauling in 11 passes for 151 yards so far. Bryden Horstin has seven catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns.
On the ground, Kayden Thoma (196 yards, two touchdowns, 9.3 yards per carry) and Cole Bolen (174 yards, three touchdowns, 7.3 yards per carry) are leading the way.
The Bruins lost a little ground in the Class AAA standings this week, but still have themselves in position to contend for a first playoff trip in over a decade as they currently tank No. 14.
The opening kick Friday is set for 7 p.m.
