EDISON GETS BIG WIN AT WEIR
WEIRTON -- The Edison football team got back in the win column and spoiled the Red Riders home opener on Friday night, earning a 36-6 victory at Jimmy Carey Stadium.
Brett Hellyer ran for three touchdowns in the game, while Bryson Cunningham threw a touchdown pass to Will Norris.
Edison improves to 2-3 with the win, while Weir High falls to 0-4.
The Wildcats visit undefeated Toronto next Friday night, while Weir High will host Tyler Consolidated.
CRUSADERS TOP THE PANTHERS
YORKVILLE -- The Catholic Central football team earned a hard-fought 20-8 win on the road over Buckeye Local at World War II Memorial Stadium on Friday night.
The Crusaders led 13-8 at halftime and pitched a second half shutout to improve to 2-3 on the season.
Buckeye Local drops to 0-5.
Central returns home next Saturday night to host St. Thomas Aquinas, while the Panthers will visit Oak Glen next Friday night.
MADONNA FALLS ON THE ROAD
BOWERSTOWN -- The Madonna football team dropped a 48-12 decision on the road at Conotton Valley on Friday night.
The Blue Dons are now 1-3 and return home to host Mathews on Thursday night.
FERRY ROLLS PAST HARRISON
CADIZ - Martins Ferry pulled away from host Harrison Central with a 28-point second quarter Friday night at Wagner Field in rolling to a 49-0 defeat of the Huskies.
Walkquem Cox ran for three touchdowns and Colby Kropka hooked up with Javon Johnson and ran for another six points as the Purple Riders (5-0) remained perfect heading into next week's "meeting of the unbeatens" as Union Local visits the Purple Rider Stadium inside the Dave Bruney Football Complex.
Christian Shutler returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown in the second half and Jakori Cox took another pick 72 yards to the house.
The victory was extra special for Martins Ferry head coach Justin Kropka who spent 12 seasons as the Huskies head coach.
