WEIR HIGH'S COMEBACK FALLS SHORT
WEIRTON -- The Weir High football team battled back from a big deficit and had its best offensive output of the season on Friday night, but ultimately came up a little short in dropping a 49-35 loss to visiting Tyler Consolidated Friday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium.
The Red Riders (0-5) trailed 28-6 at one point before mounting a rally in the second half.
Weir High hits the road next week with a trip to Keyser.
OAK GLEN WINS BIG OVER BUCKEYE
NEW MANCHESTER -- The Oak Glen football team got back in the win column on Friday night, rolling to a 41-14 victory over Buckeye Local at the Bears Den.
The Golden Bears, who improve to 2-3 at the midpoint of their season, opened a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and led 27-0 at halftime before both teams scored 14 in the third quarter.
Maddox Bowen had a big night for the Bears passing game, going 20 of 28 for 312 yards and five touchdowns. Oak Glen finished with 512 yards of total offense in the win.
Buckeye Local fell to 0-6 with the loss.
Oak Glen travels to St. Marys next Friday, while the Panthers host undefeated Martins Ferry.
CREEK DROPS TOUGH LOSS
BELLAIRE -- The Indian Creek football team put up a strong fight on the road at Bellaire on Friday night, but came up short, 37-28.
Creek falls to 3-3 on the season, while Bellaire improved to 4-2.
Bruce Mazar had scoring runs of 12, 13 and 10 yards to lead the Redskins efforts, while Jorden Hines had an 8-yard scoring run as well.
Mazar finished with 154 yards on 24 carries. Ethan Starr threw for 123 yards and rushed for 74.
Creek is back in action on Thursday night taking on Harrison Central at home.
HUSKIES FALL AT BARNESVILLE
BARNESVILLE -- The Harrison Central football team could not slow down undefeated Barnesville on Friday night, dropping a 68-13 decision to the Shamrocks.
The Huskies (1-5) hung tough early, as they were within 21-13 at the end of the first quarter. From there, however, the now 6-0 Shamrocks scored the game's final 47 unanswered points.
Harrison Central will look to bounce back on Thursday night when they visit Indian Creek.
