MADONNA WINS HOME OPENER
WEIRTON -- Playing its first home game in two years, the Madonna football team made it one to remember.
The Blue Dons scored early and often in earning a 41-0 victory over visiting Van, giving first-year head coach Shawn McKinnon his first victory and Madonna its first win of its comeback season.
Thomas Davidson had a big night for the Blue Dons, rushing for 188 yards and five touchdowns, while Brennan Gray added a rushing score.
Madonna, now 1-1, heads to Oakland, Maryland next week to take on the Southern Rams.
CRUSADERS GET BIG WIN
ZANESVILLE -- The Catholic Central football team bounced back with a big win on the road Friday, topping Bishop Rosecrans 41-7.
The victory is the first for first-year Central head coach Greg Bahen and improves the Crusaders to 1-2.
Central visits Toronto next Friday.
CREEK FALLS AT UL
BELMONT -- Indian Creek dropped a 48-7 loss on the road at undefeated Union Local on Friday night to drop to 1-2 on the season.
Dylan Romanyak ran for Creek’s lone score, a 15-yard run in the third quarter. Bruce Mazar added 71 yards on 12 carried for the Redskins.
Indian Creek looks to bounce back next week at home hosting Weir High on homecoming night.
OAK GLEN FALLS AT RIVER
HANNIBAL -- The Oak Glen football fell on the road at River on Friday to drop to 1-1 on the season, 49-14.
The Golden Bears travel to South Harrison next Friday.
TIGERS CLAW PANTHERS
SHADYSIDE -- The Buckeye Local football team dropped to 0-3 with a 61-6 loss on the road at Shadyside on Friday night.
The Panthers got 67 yards rushing from Blake Worwa.
They host Barnesville next week.
HUSKIES FALL TO STRASBURG
CADIZ -- The Harrison Central football team suffered a 54-7 setback to visiting Strasburg on Friday night at Wagner Field.
The Huskies, now 1-2, visit undefeated Union Local next week.
