BIG RED CLOSES REGULAR SEASON STRONG

CADIZ -- Competing in its final match of the regular season Wednesday, the Big Red golf team finished its slate on a high note to head into postseason play with momentum.

Big Red took on Harrison Central at Cadiz Country Club to close the regular season and earned a close, 164-169 win over the Huskies.

Andrew Matzorkis led the way for Big Red, firing a one-under 35 to earn match medalist. Jaggar Rawson followed close behind with a 38, Patrick Jenkins had a 44, Noah Kokiko a 47, Brody Becker a 53 and Max Henderson a 60.

Big Red closes the regular season with an overall record of 22-9 and 15-7 in duels.

Postseason action begins today for Big Red as they compete in the OVAC Class 5A tournament at the Trent Jones Golf Course at Oglebay. On Monday, Steubenville begins OHSAA tournament action back at Cadiz CC with the Division II sectional tournament.

“The regular season is over, but the most important golf of the year is just beginning,” Big Red coach Joe Garay said.

WEIR TOPS EAST LIVERPOOL

EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Weir High golf team earned a road win over East Liverpool on Wednesday, winning nine-hole duel 166-184 to improve to 18-6 on the season.

Guy Meneely was the match medalist with a score of 37, while Evan Baker shot a 39, Landon Donaldson fired a 44 and Aiden Ferguson carded a 46.

The Red Riders compete in the OVAC Class 5A tournament today at Oglebay.

PANTHERS TOP BEARS

RAYLAND - Dugan Dobrovich shot a one-under par 35 as the Panthers defeated the Golden Bears, 169-176, Wednesday at Bec-Wood Hills Golf Course.

Maddox Chafin led Oak Glen with a 38.
