Weir keeps working, ready to take on Tyler

WEIRTON -- The Weir High football team continues to make gains and progress.
They're hoping this is the week that progress turns into a notch in the win column.
The Red Riders are back at home and looking to get their first win, hosting Tyler Consolidated Friday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium.
The Silver Knights are 1-2 and in the mix for a playoff spot in Class AA, sitting at No. 19 in the rankings, three spots on the outside looking in.
They are coming off their first win, a 44-7 road triumph over Buffalo.
They dropped their first two games, at home vs. Williamstown 30-7 in their opener and on the road at Doddridge County 35-13.
"They're a scrappy team," Red Riders head coach Chris Hill said. "They have played a couple of pretty good teams before that in Doddridge County and a Williamstown team that is usually pretty darn good in Class A.
"They run quite a bit of the same things that we saw last week; they're very similar to Edison. They're going to line up in wishbone, try to run the ball at you. Defensively, they use multiple fronts. They are going to try to attack you and penetrate and get you stopped in the backfield before you get started.
"They have a good running back, they have a good quarterback, they're going to be a challenge for us."
The Silver Knights are averaging 21.3 points per game and allowing an average of 24.
Meanwhile, sitting at 0-4 is not where the Red Riders had hoped to be, but Hill has seen growth in the young team and they continue to work hard to fix their mistakes and work towards that elusive first victory.
"We're going to try to clean up our passing game; we have some really good athletes. Through the first four games of the season, we've really struggled to get the ball to them in the pass game," Hill said. "Defensively, we're going to work on finishing tackles this week. We had Edison's running back stopped behind the line a few times and just didn't finish the tackle, which ended up causing us to give up a couple bigger runs for him."
The opening kick on Friday night is set for 7 p.m.
