WINTERSVILLE -- Edison struck first in the annual Route 43 Bowl, but Indian Creek took over from there to end the regular season with a rivalry win.

Creek pulled away to win the annual clash of neighboring school districts inside Kettlewell Stadium Friday night, 28-7, and close the regular season at 7-3 with four-straight wins and wins in six of their last seven games.

At press time Friday night it was still unclear if the win was enough to get Creek into the Division IV, Region 15 playoffs.

Bruce Mazar capped a stellar regular season with 180 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries, while hauling in another score on a 32-yard pass for a 212 yard night, factoring into all four of Creek's touchdowns.

He had scoring runs that covered 52, 4 and 29 yards in the victory for the Redskins.

Ethan Starr completed 6 of 7 passes for 83 yards and the score to Mazar.

After Edison, which finishes its season at 3-7, opened the scoring with a 1-yard run by quarterback Bryson Cunningham in the opening quarter, Creek scored the last 28-unanswered points to take the victory.

Mazar hauled in the 32-yard pass from Starr to tie the game at 7-7 after one quarter, then broke his 52-yarder early in the second to put Creek on top and they never looked back.

He had his 4-yard score in the third and 29-yarder in the fourth quarter to help the Redskins put the game away.

Edison got 111 yards rushing from Brett Hellyer on 13 carries, while Cunningham passed for 70 yards to go with his score.

Creek's defense got interceptions from Kade Haines and Sawyer Pietro.
