WEIRTON -- The Madonna football team is back at home on Friday night looking to end a a three-game slide.
Friday would certainly be a great time to get back in the win column, as it is homecoming night a Jimmy Carey Stadium when the Blue Dons welcome Calhoun for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Madonna is 1-4 through the first half of its first season back on the field, having dropped three-straight on the road since their Week 2 win.
The good news for the Blue Dons is three of the next four are on their home turf.
Calhoun comes to Weirton with a 3-1 mark and are currently sitting at No. 8 in the Class A standings, in contention for not just a playoff spot, but also a home game. They have more than half of their schedule remaining before they get there, though.
the Red Devils' wins so far have come over Gilmer County (42-18), Richwood (63-43) and on the road at Wirt County (26-7). They lost their last outing, 38-19, at Sherman two weeks ago before having their bye week last week.
The Devils average an impressive 37.5 points per game while allowing 26.5 on the defensive side of the ball.
That high-powered offense is led by dual threat quarterback Trevor Mayle, a sophomore, who has thrown for 318 yards and two scores and rushed for another 558 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 5.2 yards per carry and 139.5 rush yards per game.
Seniors Chase Schoolcraft and Rome Riddle each have a pair of rushing scores, while the Devils average 266 yards on the ground as a team and have scored 19 of their 21 touchdowns on the ground this season.
Their receiving group is led by Schoolcraft, who has hauled in 14 passes, half of his team's season total, for 137 more yards and a score. Junior Gavin Hicks is also a 100-plus yard receiver through four games and had caught a TD.
Senior Kristian Frederick has five sacks on defense while Ezra Anderson is the leading tackler with 38.
For the Blue Dons, who are averaging 14.4 points per game and allowing an average of 41.8, Thomas Davidson continues to lead the way as the senior has 492 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, averaging 8.8 yards per carry. He also is the team's leading receiver with nine catches for another 132 yards and an addition score.
Connor Lancaster and Brennan Gray also each have rushed for a score as the Blue Dons average nearly double the amount of rush yards than they have passing.
Sophomore QB Vinny Chiodi has thrown for two scores in limited action.
