Jefferson County Elite A baseball squad captures Lancaster Beaver Dam Tournament championship

LANCASTER, Ohio -- The Jefferson County Elite A and B squads competed in the Lancaster Beaver Dam Tournament over the weekend at Beavers Field, with the A team capturing the championship.
Big innings propelled Jefferson County all weekend and Sunday's championship game was no exception.
The A team led 2-1 after one inning before putting up five runs in the second and coasting past the Columbus Sharks Teal 18U by a 12-4 count in five innings. They are now 10-4-1.
Anthony Sinicropi and Connor Shultz teamed on a six-hitter for the winners, with Sinicropi working the first three with two strikeouts and three walks. Shultz finished up, fanning one.
Klay Cottis and George Ash each drove home two runs with a pair of singles. Andrew Kinney, Zac Berger and David Ferroni all had run-scoring singles.
The A team scored five times in the top of the second inning in posting a 6-1 nod over the Midwest Marlins in a semifinal contest.
Ash tossed a four-hitter that featured eight strikeouts and a trio of base-on-balls.
Alec McBane paced the winners' eight-hit attack with a single and triple that drove in three runs. Berger and Kinney each doubled and knocked in a run. Cottis had a pair of singles and Luke Zorne had an RBI.
The A team won a pair of games Friday before winning a third and tying another on Saturday.
The locals defeated Meigs Post 38 by a 7-6 count in their opener. They then topped Lancaster Post 11, 7-5.
In the first game, Jefferson County tallied five runs in the top of the sixth, but then held on as Meigs posted three tallies in the bottom of the seventh.
Aaron Ferguson singled twice and drove in a run for the winners. Kinney also had a pair of one-base raps and knocked in a run. Sinicropi, Cottis and Blake Connelly all had run-producing base hits.
In the nightcap, Jefferson County scored six times in the top of the fourth and made it stand.
Ferguson singled twice, doubled and produced a run while McBane singled, doubled and plated two runs. Kinney and Zorne had RBI singles.
McBane came on in relief and finished out the game. He tossed 4 2/3 innings, striking out six.
On Saturday, the A team tied the Midwest Marlins 1-1 in a game stopped after 8 innings due to a time limit.
Berger singled in Jefferson County's only run in the sixth.
Trevor Boggess hurled all eight innings, allowing two hits, a walk and striking out eight.
In its second game, Jefferson County A blanked Jefferson County B, 6-0 as Kinney and Connor Shultz combined on a three-hitter.
Kinney worked the first five frames, fanning five and walking two. Shultz closed out with two Ks and a walk.
Berger had a run-scoring double and Ferroni plated two runs with a single and sacrifice fly.
The B team dropped its opening game Friday by a 6-2 count to the Midwest Marlins 18U as the locals managed just one hit.
Conrad Gump recorded the lone safety with a fifth-inning single that drove in a run. The other tally was unearned.
It rebounded with a 14-4 pounding of the Ohio Redstorm 18U in five innings.
Jayden Sanders led the winners' 10-hit attack with a single and triple that knocked in three runs. Gump and Caden Buxton had doubles.
