MAYNARD -- Chris McIntyre admits he gets a little more pumped up when he pitches against Barton, a team for whom he started his Ohio Valley Baseball League career more than a decade ago.
Friday night, the right-hander carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning as Maynard (5-4) doubled up Belmont County rival Barton, 4-2, on the Community Park diamond. The contest was halted by lightning with one out in the bottom of the sixth.
"It does. It really does," McIntyre said when asked about facing his old team. "They are a good hitting team. I was glad I could help us beat them tonight."
The win was the Indians second against the Braves (6-3) this season. They will meet three more times in the regular season.
"Chris kept his composure out there on the mound," Maynard player/manager David Vicker said. "We had some timely hitting, good at bats and we played really good defense."
McIntyre, who struck out six and walked a half-a-dozen, didn't allow a base hit until Ben Taylor dropped a two-out single into shallow right in the sixth.
"I was getting ahead in the count, but for some reason I couldn't finish on some of the batters," McIntyre noted. "I was glad that I could finish there at the end."
With the bases loaded and no outs in the home half of the second inning, Ryan Busby ripped a shot to left for a 2-0 lead.
"Ryan came up big for us with that hit," Vicker said of the leftfielder's two-strike single through the hole at short with the bases loaded and no outs. The hit scored the Brothers Ramsay -- Tyler and Mason -- who had walked and got hit-by-a-pitch, respectively. Mackenzie Koehler had a key at-bat prior to Busby's clutch hit as he waited out a base-on-balls on seven pitches.
The hosts added to their lead an inning later when Eric Banal worked a leadoff walk from Barton starter Eli Petho. A wild pitch moved Banal to second and he raced home on Matt Busby's solid single to right.
Barton made it 3-1 in the fourth as Niko Petrides scored from third on an Anthony Zorne sacrifice fly to center.
Tyler Ramsay walked with the bases full in the bottom of the fourth as Banal once again crossed the plate.
Maynard treks to Weirton Sunday to meet the Bobcats, while Barton returns to Henning Field inside Crescent's Pramesa Park as Moundsville visits. Both games have 1 p.m. starts.
Weirton 2, Moundsville 1, 9 inn.
At Weirton, the Bobcats scored in the bottom of the ninth to slip past the visiting Expos at Edwin J. Bowman Field.

Jake Stoner singled in Moundsville's lone run.
