VOLLEYBALL
Catholic Central 3, Madonna 0
WEIRTON -- Despite trailing at one point or another in every set Thursday, Catholic Central swept Madonna, 25-23, 26-24, 26-24.
Clara Symington paced the Crusaders with 10 kills, eight aces, three blocks, eight digs and 18 points. Mari Mello had two kills, eight assists, one ace, three digs and 16 points. Cici Ivanac collected six kills, five blocks, nine digs and six points. Adriana LeFever added a kill, 12 assists, one block and a pair of digs.
For the Blue Dons (6-7), Landy Bone had 11 kills and three blocks. Maddi Daugherty had 25 digs and Morgan Owens eight digs.
Madonna entered the match in fourth place in the OVAC Class 1A standings. If it does not change, the Blue Dons would travel to top-seeded Paden City when the tournament begins on Tuesday. The Crusaders are in sixth.
CORRECTION
Madonna was swept by Wheeling Central on Wednesday, which was originally marked as the Blue Dons winning in Wednesday's edition.
Indian Creek 3, Harrison Central 1
CADIZ -- Indian Creek most likely guaranteed a spot in the upcoming OVAC tournament with a road victory Thursday evening against Harrison Central, 25-20, 20-25, 25-14, 25-17.
Taylor Jones paced the Redskins (16-5) with 12 kills, five blocks, two digs and two aces. Olivia Wukelic also had a dozen kills and a dig. Lexi Crane produced 11 kills and one dig. Carley Penner produced 20 assists, two kills, one dig and three aces.
For the Huskies, Lexi Ferguson had 26 assists and 10 digs. McKayla Dunkle tallied 18 kills and 11 blocks. Audrey Corder had nine blocks and eight kills, while Maddy Butler added 18 digs.
Indian Creek entered Thursday in third place in the OVAC Class 4A standings. If the standings do not change, it would travel to second-seeded Union Local on Tuesday to begin the tournament. Beaver Local is first and East Liverpool fourth, while the Huskies are sixth.
Edison 3, Bellaire 1
BELLAIRE -- Edison defeated Bellaire, 25-11, 26-24, 20-25, 25-20, on Thursday.
Gracie Phillips had 17 points and five digs for the Wildcats. Savanna Ankrom produced 15 points and four kills. Karissa Speedy contributed 15 points, 14 assists and three kills. Corinne Freeman chipped in nine kills and five blocks.
Edison travels to Sandy Valley for a 10 a.m. contest on Saturday. It entered Thursday in ninth place in the OVAC Class 4A standings.
BOYS SOCCER
Steubenville 4, Minerva 1
STEUBENVILLE -- Four different Big Red players scored during the team's 4-1 win over Minerva on Thursday.
Caleb Noble, Matt Loot, Mike Rook and Nick Nurczyk scored for Steubenville (7-4-3). Rook, Andrew Neeley and Cole McCullough had one assist each. J.P. Walsh made six saves in goal.
For the Lions, Nate Nelson scored and Rowan Koble made 14 saves.
Big Red hosts Brooke at 6 p.m. Monday in an OVAC championship rematch.
