Post 33 wins twice, falls in Midwest Classic semi
YOUNGSTOWN — The Jefferson County Teramana Post 33 Legion baseball team competed in the Midwest Classic this past weekend.
During Game 1 on Saturday, Post 33 bested West Hills, 3-0, thanks to Caleb Blawut’s complete-game shutout. He allowed two hits, one walk and struck out seven. Ian McBane delivered a base hit and two RBIs. George Ash doubled and drove home a run. David Ferroni also hit a double.
In Game 2 also on Saturday, Post 33 defeated Prospects Ohio, 10-4, in six innings. Ash collected the win on the mound and went the distance, allowing one earned run on nine hits, one walk and punching out nine. At the plate, Corey Cottis produced a double, triple and two runs batted in. Ryan Anderson and Ash each tallied three hits, including a pair of two-baggers, and two RBIs. Feronni had two singles and two RBIs. McBane and Sanders each recorded two hits and an RBI (one of McBane’s went for a double).
During the semifinal on Sunday, Post 33 fell to the Astro Falcons, 4-3. Jefferson County scored a game-tying run in the seventh before allowing a run in the bottom half.
Aiden Fernandez took the loss in the complete game (6 1/3 innings). He allowed two earned runs on six hits, two walks and struck out eight. Blawut and Cottis each had a single and an RBI. J.T. Thompson singled twice.
