STEUBENVILLE -- The Big Red boys soccer team delivered an offensive explosion against Oak Glen.
Big Red erupted for six goals in the second half to pull away from the Golden Bears en route to a 9-0 victory Tuesday night on Reno Saccoccia Field inside Harding Stadium.
“We put a whole game together,” Big Red (1-3-2) head coach Greg Bowers said. “We moved the ball well. We did not do a good job of finishing at first, but in the second half we did a good job of putting the ball into the back of the net.”
Big Red kept the pressure on Oak Glen until the final whistle sounded ended the match.
“We have a lot of stuff to work on,” Oak Glen (2-1) assistant coach Dallas Brewer said.
Jacob Noble tallied three goals and an assist to lead the way offensively for the home team.
Also, Theo Loot collected two goals and an assist, while Aidan Morales, Nick Nurczyk, Matt Loot and Anthony Vendetti all delivered a goal.
Finally, Brady DiNovo added an assist.
JP Walsh made two saves in goal for Big Red.
Oak Glen used two goalies -- Spence Wilson and Michael Maxwell. Both made seven saves.
“They had three guys in the back,” Bowers said. “They had a double stopper. Our kids played extremely well.”
Big Red led 3-0 at halftime.
Big Red is scheduled to play Weir at 6 p.m. Thursday at Jimmy Carey Stadium.
“It is a big game,” Bowers said. “Give credit to Weir. They have a couple exchange students. We are going to get healthy tomorrow.”
Oak Glen is slated to play Harrison Central at 6 p.m. Friday night at Wagner Field.
