Creek boys win Buckeye 8 consolation game
CALCUTTA — With a quick turnaround following its big win over Toronto on Friday night, Indian Creek edged Cambridge 39-32 for seventh place in the Buckeye 8 championship event Saturday afternoon at Beaver Local High School.
The Redskins were led by Logan Schaffer with 14 points, while Mitch Williams added 12 and Logan Kuczykowski finished with 10 for three players in double digits.
The Redskins, now 8-9, will travel to Toronto on Tuesday.
Huskies top Bellaire for fifth
CALCUTTA — The Huskies size, length and zone defense proved to be too much for the Big Reds in the fifth place matchup at Saturday’s Buckeye 8 championship as Harrison Central prevailed 66-46.
Harrison Central, which is now 10-5, was led by sophomore Hayden Cassidy’s 18. Junior Jace Madzia posted 15.
The Big Reds were led by sophomore Mayson Sochor’s 12 and junior Jakob Dowling’s 10.
Ferry tops Edison for ninth
CALCUTTA — The Purple Riders pulled away for a 49-34 victory over Edison en route to being the only South Division school to prevail in Saturday’s ninth place game at the Buckeye 8 championships.
The Riders were led by senior Jaizen Miles’ 19. Freshman Alex Reese added 14.
Edison was led by Brayden Moses’ 24.
Brooke wins at Magnolia event
NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Brooke boys basketball team topped host Magnolia 56-50 in Saturday’s Magnolia Rotary Challenge.
The Bruins were led by led by Cole Sperlazza with 20 points and six assists. Those helpers put him over the 200 career assist mark.
Jason Varner netted 14 points for Brooke and 12 rebounds, while Alex Isigbhood also finished with a double-double at 13 points and 12 boards.
