UHRICHSVILLE -- The District Five Basketball Coaches Association has selected its 2021-2022 boys all-stars teams and numerous players from The Herald Star coverage area earned recognition.
Division III
Harrison Central sophomore Hayden Cassidy landed on the Division III first team.
The sharp-shooting Cassidy averaged 18 points per game for the Huskies and was a first team all-Eastern District selection.
Senior Cameron Best, who averaged 12.6 for Buckeye Local, was named to the second team along with Harrison Central junior Jace Madzia. He averaged 14.6 points an outing.
Honorable mention honors went to senior Luke Darrah of Buckeye Local, Harrison Central senior Jonathan Vermillion and Edison senior Tremendous West.
Logan Slotzer of Tuscarawas Valley and Dalton Patterson from Ridgewood were the Division III co-players of the year. Sharing coach of the year honors were Terry Rowe from Garaway and Tusky Valley's Terry Sites.
Division IV
Shane Keenan, who averaged 19.1 points a game during his final season at Toronto, earned a spot on the D IV first team.
Keenan, who is heading to Youngstown State to continue his football career, also earned first team all-Eastern District honors.
Named to the second team were Toronto sophomore Kam Baker (12.8 points per game) and Catholic Central junior Andrew Dorsey (10.9 points an outing).
Red Knight senior Nathan Chociej and Central sophomore Daniel Bolster received honorable mention.
Michael Minor of Malvern was named player of the year and Hiland's Mark Schlabach coach of the year.
Division I/II
Two local players, Brenten Jones of Big Red and Logan Kuczykowski from Indian Creek, earned spots on the D I/II second team.
Jones, who will be looking to make his mark on The Ohio State University's football as a preferred walk-on, averaged 14.1 points a game for Big Red during his senior season.
A junior and a three-year starter at point guard, Kuczykowski averaged 9 points per game for the Redskins.
Earning honorable mention were Big Red junior Phaeton Hill and Creek senior Mitch Williams.
Dover's T.C. Molk was the player of the year. Bob VonKaenel from Dover was selected as coach of the year.
