COLUMBUS -- The Division III and IV All-Ohio teams were announced Monday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association, and three local players made the lists.
Catholic Central senior standout Katie Zatta was a second team selection in Division IV, while Harrison Central senior standout McKayla Dunkle was a third team selections in Division III.
Edison senior Alysea Fiedorczyk was named an honorable mention on Division III.
Zatta, who announced Monday evening on Twitter she has committed to play basketball collegiately at John Caroll University, finished her career with the Crusaders with more than 1,100 career points and set the program record for 3-pointers in a season during her senior campaign in helping Central win its first OVAC title in more than three decades.
"She worked extremely hard during both the season and the off-season to improve her game. It wasn't unusual for her to work her tail off during one of our practices then go straight to her private coach for more work," Central coach Jess Looman said of Zatta after she was named to the All-East District first team. "Katie's accomplishments on the court the past two seasons speak for themselves."
"I couldn't be more happy for her."
Dunkle was a four-year starter for the Huskies and multi-sport standout, also excelling on the Harrison Central volleyball team.
She finished her senior season averaging 17.7 points and a double-double per game, and was a 1,200-career point scorer that also had more than 900-career rebounds in four years for the Huskies.
"Players like her don't come around too often, and sometimes I took her for granted because she was so consistently great. Our program is definitely going to miss her on and off the court," Harrison Central coach Nick Yourkovich said following Dunkle's selection as an all-district first-teamer. "She is very deserving … I'm not sure we win very many games the last couple of years without her.
"It was fun to coach her. She was real easy to coach."
Dunkle is also slated to continue her basketball career at the collegiate level with Mount Union.
Fiedorczyk, also a senior for the Wildcats, was an honorable mention after garnering second team all-district honors.
She averaged 14.3 points per game. The Division I and II All-Ohio teams will be announced today, followed by the winner of the Ohio Ms. Basketball Award on Wednesday.
The boys basketball All-Ohio teams will be announced starting Monday.
