Toronto softball bounces back vs. Bridgeport

TORONTO -- The Red Knights softball team got a bounce back win on Friday, topping visiting Bridgeport 7-1 at home.

Bri Burruss singled and drove in a pair of runs for Toronto, while Michelle Anderson singled and doubled, Andrea Reeves had a base hit and an RBI and Abby Liddick had a triple and two singles for a three-hit day.

Leah Gibson got the win in the circle for the Knights, going 6 1/3 innings while striking out nine. Reeves got a strikeout finishing with the final two outs.

Toronto was slated to host Barnesville on Saturday before welcoming Shadyside on Monday.

Oak Glen splits a pair

GLEN DALE -- The Oak Glen softball team started its trip to the John Marshall tournament with a 7-1 win over Ripley on Friday, then saw its streak of 38-straight regular season wins snapped with a 5-0 loss to Washington in the late game.

The defeat was the first in the regular season for the Bears since April of 2019.

In the opening win, Maddie McKay went six innings, fanning six and scattering five hits to earn the win in the circle. She also went 3 for 4 at the plate with a triple.

Sydney Brown also went 3 for 4, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs, while Lizzie Kell and Olivia Munoz (double) both knocked in a pair of runs and Sarah Brown had a pair of hits with an RBI.

In game two, Sarah Brown had the lone hit for Oak Glen, while Lizzie Kell struck out eight in the circle.

Oak Glen committed five errors in the game and all five runs scored by Washington were unearned.

Oak Glen was scheduled to play two more games in the JM event Saturday before hosting rival Weir High on Monday.

Weir earns a split in Tennessee

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. -- The Red Riders got their first win of their trip south to Tennessee on Friday as they split a pair of games on the second day of the event.

Weir High got a homer, a triple and three RBIs from Madison Angus, who pitched three scoreless innings and fanned four to take the win in the circle, to take a 10-3 win over Marshwood High School, who traveled from Maine.

Reagan Hoover had a pair of base hits and an RBI, Sophia Aperfine drove in a run with a hit, Rayna Hoover doubled, Mea Kauffman had a double and a single and Liv Baker plated two runs with a base knock.

Rylee Donaldson pitched the final four innings, also striking out four, to earn a save.

In the second game, the Red Riders dropped a tough 2-1 decision in extra innings to Columbiana.

Kauffman had a pair of doubles in the loss, while Angus went 7 2/3 strong innings, striking out five without issuing a walk before Columbiana prevailed in the bottom of the eighth.

Huskies top Panthers

CADIZ -- The Harrison Central softball team edged rival Buckeye Local, 4-3, Friday at home.

The Huskies, who bounced back from a walk-off loss to Martins Ferry on Thursday, opened a 4-0 lead before the Panthers plated three runs in the top of the seventh, but could not get the tying run across.

Edison fends

off Bellaire

RICHMOND -- The Edison baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to prevail against Bellaire at home on Friday, 5-3.

Brayden Moses drove in three runs for the Wildcats in the win, while Isaac Zastudil had a pair of hits, including a double, and an RBI and Jayden Clancey had an RBI.

Cam Cooley went six innings to earn the win for Edison, striking out five. Liam Watson earned the save.

The Wildcats head to Harrison Central on Monday.
