Blue Dons pull away to start 2-0

Michael D. McElwain RUNNING HARD — Madonna’s Matthew Geer finds room to run against Hancock Friday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium.

WEIRTON -- The Blue Dons scored the first 43 points on the way to a 49-8 win over visiting Hancock on Friday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium.

Madonna improves to 2-0 with the win in what was the home opener for coach Troy Fetty's charges.

Chase Littleton had a huge night for the Dons as he racked up 91 passing yards and three touchdowns on just four completions, adding another 119 yards and three more scores with his feet.

His scoring tosses went to Mathew Geer (50 yards), KJ Ward (23 yards) and Koleton Grishkevich (11 yards), while rushing for a 35-yard score and a pair of short TDs.

Madonna's offense racked up 418 yards, 325 of which came on the ground, while the defense held the visitors from Maryland to 125 total yards in the game.

Luca Muzzi ran for 104 yards and a score, while Ward added 32 rushing yards and had a 45-yard interception return.

Madonna travels to 2-1 Toronto next Friday.

Edison routs Minerva

MINERVA -- After a scoreless first quarter, the Edison football team exploded for 27 points in the second quarter to pull away for a 40-7 win on the road at Minerva on Friday night.

The victory improves Mike Collopy's group to 3-0 on the season, with all three wins coming away from home.

J.D. Henderson fired a pair of touchdown passes, 15 yards to Avante Hayes and 1 yard to Deacon Rawson, then Talan McClurg added back-to-back rushing scores to extend the lead. Dawson Jones later added a 15-yard score on the ground.

Edison will open the home portion of its schedule next Friday night hosting 0-2 Oak Glen.

Oak Glen falls at home

NEW MANCHESTER -- Oak Glen got off to a good start in its home opener on Friday night at the Bears Den, but St. Mary's ultimately came away with a 45-13 victory.

Logan Murray returned the opening kick 75 yards to score and give the Golden Bears, now 0-2, the early lead.

Wes Molish added a 4-yard scoring run later on, but the Blue Devils were able to pull away.

Molish had eight carries for 53 yards, while Murray was 3 of 5 passing and had 20 total yards. Evan Clouston had 12 tackles and a forced fumble to lead the Oak Glen defense.

The Golden Bears travel to 3-0 Edison next Friday.

Huskies suffer first defeat

MALVERN -- The Harrison Central football team dropped its first loss of the season in close fashion, 22-20, on the road at Malvern on Friday night.

The game was knotted 6-6 after one before Malvern led 14-6 and 22-14 going to the fourth quarter. The Huskies scored in the final quarter to pull within two, but came up just short.

Harrison Central hosts 3-0 Union Local next Friday at Wagner Field.
