Huskies win first home playoff game; Edison falls at Ridgewood

Brandon Hannahs FINDING SPACE — Talon McClurg finds a hole for a big gain in the first half in Edison’s 33-8 loss to Ridgewood in Friday’s Division V, Region 17 first round contest on Friday.

CADIZ -- The first home playoff game in Harrison Central history was a victorious one for the Huskies.

Coach Anthony Hayes' club pulled away from No. 13 seed Triway to open the Division V, Region 17 post season with a 40-10 victory at Wagner field to move on.

Mykel Quito had a big night on both sides of the ball for the Huskies. He rushed for 142 yards on 15 carries and scored three times, while racking up six tackles and two tackles for loss on defense.

Cam McAfee was key player in all free phases, intercepting three passes on defense and finishing with 11 tackles, while catching a TD pass and a two-point conversion and returning a kick for another TD.

Harrison Central (9-2) finished with 230 rushing yards and 120 passing for 350 of total offense.

"This is our first playoff win in our program history, 24 years," Hayes said. "I'm so proud of our kids and coaches. We had a great game plan. To hold a team like that to 10 points is impressive. They are very explosive. This win was for all of the teams that came before us and laid the foundation. This is a program and community win."

The Huskies, the No. 4 seed, advance and will be at home again in the second round, hosting No. 5 seed Garrettsville Garfield, who won its opener, 56-13, over Conneaut.

Edison falls at Ridgewood

WEST LAFAYETTE -- The Edison football team's season came to an end with a 33-8 loss at Ridgewood in the opening round of the Division V, Region 17 playoffs on Friday night.

Talan McClurg led the No. 10 seed Wildcats offense with 157 yards and the lone Wildcats score on 19 carries, while JD Henderson went 9 of 24 passing for 85 yards.

McClurg's TD came on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter. Dawson Jones threw a conversion pass to Trevor Eisnaugle.

Edison closes the season 7-4.

Ridgewood, now 8-3 and the No. 7 seed, advances to travel to No. 2 South Range in the second round next Friday.

Madonna falls on the road

ELIZABETH -- The Madonna football team's winning streak came to a close on Friday night with a 35-8 loss on the road at Wirt County.

Chase Littleton scored the lone touchdown for the Blue Dons, now 5-4, on a 3-yard run. He also threw a two-point conversion pass to Logan Fedak.

According to WVTailgateCentral, the loss drops Madonna to No. 19 in W.Va. Class A, meaning their regular season finale at Calhoun County next Friday is a must-win to have a chance at the playoffs.

Wirt County moved into the 16th and final playoff spot with the win.
