WVU focused on getting healthy, negotiating contracts, recruiting during the bye

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia football’s bye has passed. The open date Rich Rodriguez had long waited for is in the rearview window. The Mountaineers finally had a break after eight straight games to start the season, which was one of the most in the country. Rodriguez was very busy during the bye. Halloween was over the bye, but it wasn’t part of Rodriguez’s schedule. Rodriguez hasn’t trick-or-treated since he was eight years old when his mother dressed him up as a bush, and he got lost in the bushes for a while. “I've been traumatized, and I've never been a Halloween ...

Browns QB Watson enters concussion protocol after symptoms surfaced

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson could be sidelined for Sunday's game at New Orleans after being placed in the concussion protocol. The 10-year veteran began experiencing symptoms Monday night after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit during last week's 27-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. If Watson is unable to play, Shedeur Sanders would get his first start of the season. Sanders got his first extended practice with the starters since training camp. Coach Todd Monken indicated on Wednesday that the longer Watson remains in the protocol, the chances ...

Court rules in favor of Glenville, OHSAA to appeal

Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas by Judge Andrew J. Santoli ruled in favor of Cleveland Glenville on Tuesday after two days of hearings, ruling the OHSAA's decision to remove Glenville from the playoffs was arbitrary and preceded the completion of the eligibility investigation. Santoli previously issued a temporary restraining order after the OHSAA removed Glenville from the Division III, Region 9 playoffs late last week as part of an ongoing investigation into Cleveland Metropolitan School District inaccurately assigning student participation opportunities to Glenville. ...

No. 24 WVU women get a scare in opener

MORGANTOWN – West Virginia got hit with a wake-up call on opening night. The 24th-ranked Mountaineers trailed by as many as seven points early and then let a chunk of a 17-point advantage slip away in the fourth quarter, but still pulled out a 68-64 victory inside Hope Coliseum. The Mountaineers (1-0) won their 13th consecutive season opener and held the lead for just shy of 31 minutes, but were still never able to put the Rams away. “It looked like the first game of the year with 10 newcomers and we were a little inconsistent,” was how WVU head coach Mark Kellogg put it. ...

WVU DL McIntyre looking to get back on the field

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia football ruled out defensive lineman Corey McIntyre Jr. on Friday night before the TCU game. He suffered an injury the previous week against Cincinnati. It was a brutal loss for a streaky defense. McIntyre had 17 total tackles, forced a fumble and a sack on the season. He went from a depth piece to starting in five games this season. But with the game being on the road, McIntyre didn’t travel with the team and had to watch the team play from his couch in Morgantown. “It was a little annoying,” McIntyre said. “But it happens. It’s the way the game ...
