On June 14 (Flag Day) and 15, 2024 the Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee, the Hancock County Democratic Women, along with Olivia Dowler, candidate for West Virginia House of Delegates District 2, attended the West Virginia State Convention in Charleston. During the Convention, our delegation participated in the patriotic duty of selecting delegates to the National Convention that will take place in Chicago, this August. Thank you to all of those who took time to travel at their own expense, to Charleston and participate in the selection process.
Meanwhile, back in Weirton, on the same June 14 date, the GOP had a flag waving event that Rob Denham boasts about as a "fun, nonpolitical, patriotic event." He then proceeded to make it political by proclaiming that Dr. Lizabeth Baldt reached out to the Hancock County Democrats with an invitation to this event, and our no show is somehow unpatriotic. The Hancock County Democrats received no such invitation from the Chair of the Republican Committee, Rob Denham or anyone else.
While Rob Denham calls us unpatriotic, we celebrate our grandparents, parents, Brothers, Sisters, Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Neighbors, committee members and friends who have served in the military and continue to serve. We all have veterans and active military in our families and on our committees. We support our country, voice our opinions, and enjoy supporting our local communities. While Denham calls us unpatriotic, we are talking to everyone, both Democrats and Republicans, that resides in the Northern Panhandle to discuss our values and how we can help this state move up from its ranking of 48th place.
This "unpatriotic" accusation has no merit, but I'm not surprised. It is a typical Republican strategy. Plant the seed of doubt and let it grow.
To quote Rob Denham, "Remember in November."
