To The Editor,
In a letter dated Saturday, June 29th, I stated that the Hancock County Democratic Committee had been invited to join us, the Republican Committee, on the roadside, to celebrate Flag Day in a show of bipartisan, patriotic American fun.
In the letter, I made a point to note that the Democrats had not responded to our invitation, and felt that this "unsurprising" snub was a sad commentary on the unpatriotic nature of their party's ideologies.
However, I was quickly contacted by the understandably confused Kathy Link, their county committee chair, who told me no one had contacted anyone on that end. It seems I was misinformed. Through some kind of miscommunication or misunderstanding on our part, and despite the fact that I was assured at least twice, the invitation was apparently never extended.
This was my project, and I was trying to be "official" about it. Make it nice. Therefore, I do apologize for my comments dealing with their not responding. Again, I was misinformed.
I was also asked by Ms. Link to retract my comments about the lack of patriotic sentiment among Democrats.
In a word...
No.
I stand by my opinions of the general dearth of sincere Democratic Party patriotism. The Democrats, as a party, are not patriots.
This has been abundantly demonstrated over the last 50 years, at least, and anyone who can't see it just doesn't want to. For the record, I personally invited a few close friends of the Donkey party persuasion. They never showed up.
At any rate, in closing, I, Rob Denham, do sincerely apologize to the Hancock County Democrats, for saying they ignored our invitation. They did not, because it seems they never received it. Mea Culpa.
Rob Denham
