Police reports

Steubenville Police

Damaged: Two city parks trucks were vandalized, Friday. The rear window of one vehicle was shattered, and in the other someone “entered and damaged the dashboard (and) underneath the steering column.”

Happy feet: Officers looked for a female without a shirt, possibly unconscious, and when they finally located her realized she was wearing a tan shirt that could have been mistaken for bare skin, Friday. They said the woman was dancing on the Washington Street steps, but told them she was fine. They did tell her to pick up her belongings, which she had scattered as she danced.

Booked: Morgan Anthony Mitchell, 21, no address listed, obstructing official business and fugitive from justice, Friday. Police said Mitchell was taken into custody after he refused to cooperate when they questioned him while investigating reports that two men had been fighting over a backpack at a car wash near Wilshire Boulevard. Mitchell, who police say had the backpack, fled, but they caught up to him in a yard in the 2500 block of Sunset Boulevard between Sunset and Chestnut Street. Police reported finding a .45 Springfield 1911 in the backpack with one magazine in the backpack, and said Mitchell had a warrant out of Cuyahoga County for a concealed carry violation.

Fake Rx: Two people tried to fill fraudulent prescriptions at a Sunset Boulevard pharmacy, Friday. Pharmacy employees confirmed the fraud with the doctor listed on the faked prescriptions. Another pharmacy reported receiving two prescriptions believed to be fraudulent, Saturday. That pharmacist said someone keeps calling from the Marietta area to “make sure that they are being filled.”

Alarming: A city resident told police her estranged husband is stealing her mail and sending her texts, violating a court order, Friday.

Out of luck: A man causing a disturbance at a North Sixth Avenue apartment told police he just wanted his glasses back, Friday. The woman who rents the apartment told police that wasn’t going to happen. She said he’d been at her place for a few hours when she’d asked him to leave, which provoked an argument. She tried multiple times to get him out of her apartment. She said once he finally stepped in the hallway she tried to slam the door shut and lock it, but he tried to force his way back in and when he lost his glasses in the struggle, she stepped on them, “causing them to shatter in multiple pieces.” The officer tried to give him the pieces but he didn’t want them.

Flexing: Two kids removed a drain cover at Estelle Avenue and Broadway Boulevard, then needed help putting it back in place, Friday. One of the kids told police he wanted to see if he could lift it by himself, but once he had realized it was far heavier than he’d expected and dropped it, it landed at the bottom of the drain. The officer helped them fish the drain cover out and put it back in its proper place and advised them they should resist the urge to mess with things like drain covers in future. They agreed.

Come alone: A North Sixth Street resident was upset because two people walked in his front door and wouldn’t leave, Saturday. The male said he’d been to the apartment multiple times to “smoke weed” with the man but that day he was upset because he’d brought the female with a woman. Both were advised to leave or risk arrest. Both of them left.

Thefts: A North Third Street business reported catalytic converters had been removed from five vehicles overnight, Saturday. Police said a red hydraulic jack, brown sawzall blades and scuff marks were observed around the vehicles involved.

Learned behavior: State Street residents said they’ve been having problems with neighbors, and now two of their children have joined the fray, Saturday. They told police the neighbors’ children “began making derogatory statements toward” them, advising it’s been an ongoing issue with their parents. The wife said all they want is to be left alone. Police advised the neighbors of such.

Foiled: Wal-Mart employees said a thin female wearing a black jumpsuit tried to leave with a cart full of merchandise she hadn’t paid for, Saturday. Employees said the woman had a full shopping cart and selectively skip-scammed items at the self-checkout, bagging some and “placing (them) on top of multiple other items on the bottom of the cart so as to conceal them.” They told police she paid for some of the items and tried to leave the store, but when loss prevention tried to stop her, she fled into the mall, leaving the shopping cart behind. Police said 21 items valued at $306 were involved.

Booked: Melvin Smith, 44, Akron, improper handling of a firearm, DUS and no tail lights, Saturday; Neysa Hes, 25, no fixed address, possession of drug paraphernalia, Saturday; Brett Myers, 28, 315 Montwell Drive, Mingo Junction, receiving stolen property, falsification, warrant for probation violation out of Washington, Pa., and “several” warrants out of Florida, including one for domestic violence, and cited for no operator’s license, Saturday; Travis Taylor, 46, 1418 Pennsylvania Ave., Steubenville, petit theft and obstruction of justice, Friday. Taylor allegedly tried to steal merchandise valued at $215 from Kroger, police said.

Charged: Bobbi L. Moran, 29, no fixed address, possession of drug paraphernalia, Friday. The driver of the car she was in, Matthew L. Edwards, 35, was cited for a one-way violation.

Cited: Jana E. Kizito, 38, 1502 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, cited for leaving the scene, no operator’s license and assured clear distance ahead Friday following a three-car fender-bender in the 2100 block of Sunset Boulevard; Mary B. Lee, 86, 497 Dresden Ave., Steubenville, cited for driving under suspension after a one-car accident on Dresden Avenue. Lee allegedly struck a house and a fence while traveling in reverse; Ronald C. Agresta, 83, 4644 Lexington Dr., Steubenville, failure to yield left turn; Raymond G. Lombardi, 72, 141 Tartan Drive, Follansbee, stop sign.

Double dipping: A Rosswell Avenue resident said someone entered her home while she was at work and stole several hundred dollars, Friday. She said it’s the second time it’s happened. Police said there’s no sign of forced entry, so the perpetrator has a key.

Jefferson County sheriff

Take a hint: A Wintersville woman told deputies her boyfriend was causing problems and wouldn’t leave, Saturday. The boyfriend said he was trying to “show his feelings” for the woman by rubbing her back, kissing her and otherwise trying to convince her to have intercourse, but she wasn’t interested. He said when she “got upset with his affection, she became irritated and started yelling, so he yelled back.” The woman said he wasn’t getting the hint so she yelled, then they started arguing and at one point he grabbed her son’s game console and dropped it outside.

Booked: One man was taken into custody after he reportedly jumped out a bedroom window and into his car to flee, rather than talk to officers following up on a report of a domestic disturbance in Wintersville, Sunday. Austin Richard Virtue, 25, 601 Two Ridge Road, Apt. J3, was charged with failure to comply and obstructing official business, deputies said. Initially, the female tried to persuade officers the loud voices they’d heard were probably her children fighting, but they didn’t agree and told her if the man didn’t come out on his own they were going to have to enter her residence “to make contact (with him) and check on everybody’s safety.” She told them he was hiding in the bedroom, but when she opened the door he was climbing out the window. Deputies said as he tried to get away, he reportedly crashed his car into a fire hydrant and put his car into reverse “as if he was going to back up … and continue” but eventually complied with orders to surrender. According to the report, he later told deputies he was afraid he’d end up in jail again for domestic violence, adding their argument was triggered by his discovery of what he described as “porn” on his significant other’s cellphone, though he didn’t specify what, exactly, that was. She told them he got upset with her “removing him from her Facebook account.” Both said the fight never escalated to anything physical.

Taking advantage: A Toronto man who had his car towed to a Pennsylvania dealership said the tow truck driver and his girlfriend stole his credit card and multiple gift cards from the vehicle, Saturday. He said he discovered the theft when he checked his card activity, telling deputies the pair made multiple purchases at Rite Aid, Lowes and gas stations in the Pittsburgh area. He said someone at the dealership contacted the owner of the tow service, who confronted the driver and said he admitted to the theft.
