Returned: Deputies found a stolen dirt bike found behind a Sinclair Avenue (county Road 77) residence, Wednesday. With help from neighbors, they traced the bike to a nearby home, where a woman told them her late husband had purchased it as a gift for her child. She said it had no title when the bought it so she didn’t think she could report it stolen but had been “looking everywhere” for it and had the pictures and video to prove it belonged to her child. She said it had been stolen during the nighttime hours a week or two ago.
Attempted entry: Fresh pry marks were found at a Cadiz Road business, Quick Stop Foods, 1088 Cadiz Road, Wintersville. Sunday. An alarm sounded, apparently causing the would-be thief to flee. Deputies said a piece of metal on the drive-through window was bent and there were scratches that appeared to be fresh pry marks, but it still was locked and secured.
Out cold: A caller reported two people in a car parked with the doors open for several hours outside Heritage Place Apartments, Wintersville, were unresponsive, Sunday. Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department was at the scene when deputies arrived and reported they were “able to easily wake the (two) up,” and that they’d refused assistance. A first responder told them the pair “appeared normal” and said they didn’t need assistance, before entering an apartment.
Burrito fight: A deputy assisting a motorist with car troubles saw a couple fighting in a parking lot in Wintersville, Sunday. The male allegedly pushed the female to the ground, and employees said she was last seen running away toward Steubenville while the male drove away in a pickup. The truck was spotted leaving a different parking lot and a deputy followed him, taking note that he sped out of the lot and failed to stop at a stop sign or use turn signals and that he “threw items out of the driver side window” when he made the turn onto Main Street. Deputies said the man ignored commands and signals to pull over, eventually pulling into a Marion Place driveway. When they asked him why he’d ignored their lights and siren as well as verbal commands to pull over, deputies said he “stated he was color blind.” They said he smelled of alcohol, and in his wallet found am OVI citation he’d received in the early morning hours Sunday from Ohio State Highway Patrol. Wintersville police were able to locate the woman, who confirmed he’d thrown her to the ground after she told him he bought her the wrong burrito. Michael James Harner, 37, 146 Ellsworth St., Wintersville, was charged with domestic violence, deputies said. Harner also was cited for DUS and failure to comply.
