Steubenville Police
Trivial pursuit: A Brondus Avenue resident told police a woman entered her home and started arguing with a male who claimed she’d stolen his cell phone, Tuesday. The woman told police “she just wanted her shoe back and she would leave.” The two of them exchanged items.
Gassy: Residents in the 2400 block of Sunset Boulevard said they managed to rupture a gas line while they were moving their refrigerator, Tuesday. Steubenville firefighters shut off the gas and vented the residence.
Playing games: A man claimed his ex started “belittling him in front of the children” and then refused to get out of his car during a custody exchange, Tuesday. He said she always gets in the car to tell their kids goodbye, and police said she was still there when they came out to talk with her. She told them she didn’t want to leave the kids alone in the car after he went inside. Police suggested in future, all goodbyes be said before the kids get in the other parents’ vehicle.
Receipt shopping: Employees at Wal-Mart told police a man brought an old receipt into the store, walked from shelf to shelf gathering the items listed on it and then went to the service desk to “return” them, Tuesday. They told police the man has made several returns recently that they’re looking into.
Causing problems: A disturbance was reported in the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue, Tuesday. Police said a man had gone to the residence to collect his belongings, which his ex had bagged for him and invited him to collect. They said he wasn’t causing a problem, but the woman’s family and friends were.
Booked: Kevin Chociej, 53, 411 N. Seventh St., Steubenville, weapons under disability and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, Tuesday. Police said Chociej was taken into custody after a loaded handgun was allegedly discovered in the vehicle he was driving during a traffic stop on Washington Street Hill at Mucci Way. He denied ownership of the gun, but the woman he claimed owned it told police her registered handgun was at home. Police said Chociej is prohibited from owning or using firearms due to a prior conviction. Chociej also was cited for driving under suspension.
Theft: A Woodland Avenue resident told police his Kobalt electric weed eater and leaf blower had been stolen from his back yard, Tuesday. He told police they were there when he left.
Pushed aside: Employees at a downtown office said someone pushed their central air conditioning unit off the cement slab it was supposed to be, Tuesday. Police said three-quarters of the unit was sitting in the grass.
Stolen: A woman who forgot to collect her $60 cash back from the checkout at Kroger said by the time she realized her mistake her money was gone, Tuesday. She told police she’d like to pursue charges.
Booked: John L. Nation, 3908 Adams St., Weirton, bench warrant for failure to appear, Tuesday.
Served: Ricky Barnett, 56, 1408 State St., Steubenville, warrant for failure to appear, Tuesday.
Code issue: Notices of violation were sent to the owner/occupant of a property at 316 Terrace Avenue, household garbage scattered in front and sides of property; 1329 West Adams St., high grass/weeds, furniture stored on front porch. Also, 377 Lawson Ave. and 405 Lawson Ave., both for high weeds/grass.
Cited for speeding: Charles H. Fuller Jr., 29, 815 N. Sixth Ave., Steubenville; Ciara M. Potenzini, 61, 108 Rex Ave., Wintersville; Jade A Williams, 23, 44100 Ash Creek Road, Jewett. Also cited: Jason McGarry, 41, Neffs, excessive window tint.

Anger issues: A Steubenville-area resident said her ex showed up uninvited to get his things and, in the process, damaged her Ring doorbell, Tuesday. She said she wasn’t interested in speaking to him face-to-face so while he was on her back porch she packed his things and put them on her front porch. When she told him what she’d done she said he walked around to the front of the house and picked up a fire poker that he used to hit her doorbell.
Snuffed out: A Toronto-area man said his neighbor is rubbing snuff on his vehicle, Monday. He told deputies he’d collected a bag of the substance from his car but, since he didn’t want to pursue charges they told him it wouldn’t be necessary and he should just get rid of it.
Fighting: A caller reported a disturbance at a Salineville location, Tuesday Deputies said the male told them he was willing to leave but he couldn’t drive because he’d been drinking and he needed his car for work the next day. The female told police they’d been “arguing all day” and he’d started drinking around 10 a.m. They said he began yelling and arguing with her while they were talking to them, and the dispute ended with deputies telling them to knock it off.
