Steubenville Police

Funny money circulating: Employees at a downtown store reported someone tried to pay for a purchase with a counterfeit bill, Tuesday. The manager said the male involved had already left the store but “seemed unaware that it was a fake $20 bill. But later in the day the manager reported recovering two more counterfeit $20 bills from the cash drawers. She said employees didn’t spot the counterfeits while they were checking the customers out and they’d “passed them over to the bank while depositing the money.”

Drugs: An apparent overdose was reported in the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue, Tuesday. Police said he was “profusely sweating and could not stand still” and was “obviously under the influence of drugs.” He was “nodding off” as they spoke with him and needed to sit down so Steubenville firefighters took him to the hospital.

Served: Guy V. Thomas, 35, Market Street, Wheeling, failure to appear, Tuesday; Cassaundra Digman, 35, Grace Street, Mingo Junction, failure to appear, Tuesday.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1326 Oak Grove Ave., 1328 Oak Grove Ave., 1329 Oak Grove Ave. and 1343 Wellesley Ave., all for high weeds/grass.

Cited: Angeline Lynn Cole, 107 Maple Ave., Mingo Junction, no operator’s license; Ian Hicks, 39, 123 Jenny Lane, expired registration.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Lively neighborhood: A woman said her daughter’s Barbara Avenue, Steubenville, neighbor “went out and is ripping the property line stakes out of the ground and throwing them around the yard and yelling at her daughter,” Tuesday. She said it’s been an ongoing issue and he’s “having a fit because he doesn’t (agree) with the property line survey” she’d had done. She said he’s destroyed things on her daughter’s property before. Deputies said the neighbor also called in requesting assistance because he doesn’t agree with the location of the stakes. No further information was available.

Entered: A Dillonvale resident in the process of moving said someone ransacked her home, Tuesday. She said they returned to the residence “and found the house a mess.
