Thayer promoted at Specialty Retail

The promotion of Jack Thayer to senior vice president, general manager with Specialty Retail Group in Charlotte, N.C., was announced by the company.

Thayer is the son of John R. (Jack) Thayer of Weirton and Velma Thayer of Charlotte. The younger Thayer and his wife, Debra, and their two children reside in Charlotte.

His most recent role was SVP, general manager of the Lowe’s portfolio, which he held since 2001.

During his tenure as GM, he and his team grew the Lowe’s Consumer, Commercial and Canada Programs by 241 percent and signed a 10-year extension in 2002, according to officials.

In May 2014, the Lowe’s team successfully renewed the Lowe’s agreement once again.

Thayer started his career with GE Capital in 1982 as a call center customer service representative.

During this time, he held roles in operations inventory finance, sales and marketing, with progressing levels of responsibility.

Prior to assuming the Lowe’s general manager role, he held program manager and general manager roles for multiple clients, including Armstrong Flooring, Payless Cashways, Home Depot, Sam’s Club and ExxonMobil.

He is a seven-time recipient of the GE Capital Pinnacle and Consumer Finance President’s Leadership Award.

He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Shepherd College.

“Jack’s stellar reputation for developing future leaders, deep domain expertise and extensive general management experience makes him a phenomenal choice for the SRG general manager role,” officials said.
