WELLSBURG — The owners of a family-run contracting business have found a new home in the city along state Route 2 and hope to help many area residents improve the appearance and durability of their own homes.
Members of the Wellsburg Chamber of Commerce welcomed Barry and Ruth Hicks, owners of Saints Roofing and Construction, and their staff to their new location at 1483 Commerce St.
The contracting business offers roof repair and replacement, siding installation, box gutter repair and removal and other services to residential and commercial customers.
A native of Kentucky, Barry has lived in the Tri-State Area for several years and run the contracting business with his wife, Ruth, a Cadiz native and graduate of Jewett-Scio High School, in Bridgeville, Pa., and Wheeling previously.
Barry, who started working in home repair at the age of 16, said they were no strangers to Wellsburg, having worked on a lot of homes there.
“We prayed about it and this is where the Lord wanted us,” he said.
Ruth added their new location offers an ideal center point from which to serve customers in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The two added they eagerly anticipated completion of the new Ohio River bridge linking state Route 2 in Brooke County to state Route 7 in Jefferson County.
They also welcomed a headquarters with space to display examples of the wide range of projects they have completed.
During a recent open house, chamber members surveyed a wall filled with large photos showing the array of work they have done.
With 35 years of experience in home repair, Barry is aided by Ruth, who serves as office manager; general manager Dean Craft and project manager Barry Hicks III; and about 16 crew members.
In addition to roofing, siding and gutters, they have coated chimneys and repaired flashing to protect homes from rain and other outside elements and, when practical and beneficial, removed and capped chimneys.
They also have provided inspection services required when filing an insurance claim for damages and installed skylights and solar panels.
Barry said the latter has been of interest primarily to commercial enterprises but has expanded more recently to residential customers.
He said whatever the structure, solar panels can result in great savings in heating costs, offering a return on their investment five to 10 years from their installation.
They also are able to work with customers to secure adequate financing and participate in the GAF Master Elite Gold Pledge Warranty program, offering a 50-year warranty on materials provided through the shingle manufacturer and a 25-year warranty on the craftsmanship.
Barry noted the warranties are transferable to a new owner should the structure be sold.
He and Ruth said they try to form a relationship with their customers, building trust that will carry over to potential future projects.
They said their Christian faith has played a large role in their business and its development.
Barry said the business’ name was inspired by its biblical meaning, while its logo’s colors, red, blue and white, represent the blood shed by Christ, the blue skies of Heaven and the path to purity Christians are called to walk.
