Special awards given to New Cumberland Lions

NEW CUMBERLAND — First Vice President Joyce Young presided at the June meeting of the New Cumberland Lions Club with Don Greathouse offering the prayer and Arland Lamp leading in the pledge of allegiance.
District Gov. Gary Pitcock and Zone Chairman Bernice Pitcock, guests, were introduced by Young, who thanked Pam Stiles, Dorothy Hawkes, Betsy Wells, Jim Wells, Sally Greathouse, Peggy Lee and Alan Lee for their contributions to the evening festivities.
Young awarded new member certificates to Derek Stickles and Tonya Stickles and sponsor certificates to sponsors Jeff Fawcett and Ellen Musgrave, respectively.
Gary Pitcock installed officers for the 2019-20 year and made two special award presentations. Ed Fields received the Leonard Jarrett Award, the highest Lions honor in West Virginia. Betsy Wells was presented with the Melvin Jones Award, the highest award in Lionism worldwide.
In other business, Bob Manypenny asked for a few more volunteers to help with the pulled pork food fundraiser. The next pulled pork events are set for July 27; Aug. 31; Sept. 28-29 at the New Cumberland River Fest; and Oct. 19 at the Swaney Memorial Library parking lot, the usual location.
Tail Twister Cole Young held the tail twister drawing. Andrew Keefer was the winner. Door prizes also were awarded.
