Helping Hancock County Humane Foundation

-- Contributed

Every dog has its day, and thanks to a group of students from Brooke County High School, those days will be warm, dry and safe for some local dogs in need, according to Thomas Goff, vice president of the Hancock County Humane Foundation. Under the direction of instructor and master carpenter Jack Minger, Brooke High School students utilized donated recycled building material, proven high-design standards and many hours to build outdoor dog houses. The end result was seven dog houses fully insulated with safe compartments and a flip top roof for easy maintenance. “We are just thrilled Brooke County High School students chose animal safety and welfare for a construction project,” Goff said. The foundation will work with Brooke and Hancock County animal officials and distribute the dog houses to those most in need, while educating dog owners, he said, on the importance of safety and animal welfare when left outdoors. “Thank you, Brooke High School students and instructor Jack Minger, for a job well done to help the animals enjoy a better day,” Goff said. “The Hancock County Humane Foundation does not condone keeping dogs outside, as we believe they are a part of the family. However, current humane laws can fall short in the care of animals, so we hope these houses will provide a safe and warm haven for those in need,” Goff added. Among the students helping were, from left, Devin Meade, Jay Gault, Brad Anderson, Jeremy Gilchrist, Evan Baker, Joe Fuscardo, Brianna Blackburn, James Dodd, Cody Holloway, Dan Rawson and Nathan Taylor.
