Library announces programs and activities scheduled
STEUBENVILLE — A variety of programs and activities are on the calendar for the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County. Here is what’s happening at its various locations:

Adults: Cozy Mystery Book Club will meet to discuss “The Wine and Punishment” by Sarah Fox on Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. Call to join.
Attend the library’s weekly Tai Chi class on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Wear comfortable clothing to the hour-long class. The class is taught by certified instructor Mike Turrentine.
Children: Watch a family movie at the library on Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. Call to save a seat and find out what’s playing.
Children can drop off their stuffed animal for a sleepover on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Kids will listen to a bedtime story, and their special friend can be picked up the next day. Register by calling the library.
Teens: Make a spooky chandelier and paint rocks at this program on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Call to register.
Adena Branch, (740) 546-3782
Children: Play and Learn the Alphabet will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. This program allows children (ages 2-6) to play with letter-learning toys.
Help babies with language development at Babygarten on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Babygarten is for caregiver with children birth to age 2. Stories, rhymes, and songs are shared.
Teens: Paint a flowerpot using oil-based markers on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. Instructions will be given to take home and bake to cure the paint. Registration is required.
Adults: Learn basic macrame knots and make a simple wall hanging on Monday at 5 p.m. Registration is required.
Brilliant Branch, (740) 598-4028
Children: Grab-and-Go Story Time bags are available for pickup starting Monday. Bags include the book “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Peen and a craft.
Kids can paint a monster using fork art on Oct. 15 at noon. Supplies are provided. Registration is required by calling the library.
Adults: Enjoy coloring pages designed for adults on Thursday at 6 p.m. Supplies are provided.
Dillonvale-Mount Pleasant Branch, (740) 769-2090
Adults: Learn basic macrame knots and make a simple wall hanging on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Registration is required.
Get a flu shot on Thursday anytime from 1-3 p.m. The Jefferson County General Health District will administer shots. Insurance cards are accepted. For those without insurance, the vaccine is $25. Vaccines are available at no cost to those who qualify.

Local author Susan Guy will visit the library to discuss and sign copies of her book, “Moonlight Mill Murders,” on Thursday at 6 p.m. Copies of the book are available to purchase the evening of the program.
Children: Teach children to love the library at a young age by attending Play and Learn on Oct. 14 at 10:30 a.m. All toys promote letter knowledge and other early literacy skills.
Take home a Grab-and-Go fall craft on Monday, which are available while supplies last.

Adults: Learn the history of famous and infamous pirates who terrorized travelers on and around the Ohio River in a program presented by reference librarian J.L. Lash and Juli Paquette on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Call to register.
Book Club will meet to discuss “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek” by Michele Richardson on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Call to join.
It’s craft night at the library on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. “The leaves are falling and the temperatures a cooling. Get creative with leaves, a spokesperson noted. Supplies are provided, but register in advance.
Children: Tot Time is scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. Parents with children ages 2-4 can attend this program to hear stories and make a craft. Register by calling the library.
“Take your baby (birth to age 2) to Babygarten on Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. for this lap-sit program that includes books, rhymes and songs,” a library spokesperson said. Register in advance.
