Toronto Seniors hold banquet
TORONTO — The Toronto Sunrise Seniors celebrated Mother’s and Father’s Day during the group’s monthly meeting at the Karaffa Recreation Center commons area on May 9.
Members and guests were greeted with furnished table decorations featuring potted orchid centerpieces.
President Barbara Pritts welcomed members and guests to the banquet, including Mayor John Parker, Don and Cheryl Clark, Darla Pletcher, Lori Gorney and Shirley Rebich.
Co-Chaplain Mary Lou Emery provided the blessing for the meal and said a prayer for all of the mothers and fathers who were present.
Those in attendance enjoyed meals consisting of baked steak and chicken, catered by Connie’s Corner in Chester.
The kitchen committee consisted of members Joe Radvansky, Sandi Radvansky, Mary Ellen Marion and Nancy Bodrog. All were thanked for their work in organizing and setting up for the event.
Following dinner, members stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Pritts reminded everyone about the collection being taken for Toronto’s flag fund. An envelope was circulated around the room for donations.
Social Secretary Mary Ann Landerfield recognized those who were celebrating a birthday or anniversary in May.
Landerfield reminded seniors of the Prime-Time Senior Expo that will be held on Wednesday.
Vice President Sandi Radvansky announced the bus trip to see “Sister Act” in Midland, Pa., June 29 is full.
Table centerpieces and chocolates were won by Patti Losey, Karen Martin, Jackie Collins, Bea Lytle, Dave Trudick, Don Clarke, Betty Mossor, Phyllis Smith, Marlene Garrett and Sandi Radvansky.
The winners of a gift provided by the mayor were Jackie Porter and Joe Radvansky.
The winners of gift cards provided by Clarke Funeral Home were Ruth White and Hank Sheets.
The winners of the 50/50 drawing were Dora Ohler and Brenda Fetty.
The activity for the evening was a balloon volleyball game. Participants popped a balloon when music stopped.
The winners of the event were Emery, Bodrog, Carol Rogers, Martin, Lynn Miller, Mary Murphy and Lytle.
Following the telling of a few jokes, the meeting was adjourned. Members remained to help clean up and then moved into a classroom to play bingo.
Winners included Mary Murphy, Candi Murphy, Gorney, Porter, Ethel Stevens, David DeVore, Marsha McConnell and Lytle.
The group’s next meeting will take place at 5 p.m. Friday. All seniors living in Ohio who are 55 years old or older are welcomed to join the club.
