Church Women United plan call

WEIRTON — Church Women United will not hold a meeting Oct. 3, but will hold a conference call beginning at 11 a.m. To join the call, phone (267) 807-9601, Ext. 230635. A discussion will take place on the upcoming UNICEF collection, set to begin Oct. 5 and run through Oct. 26. The women’s next meeting will be on World Community Day, set for 11 a.m. Nov. 7 at Shiloh Apostolic Faith Church, located at 3000 Weir Ave. in Weirton.

Oak Glen plans New York trip

NEW CUMBERLAND — An overnight trip to New York City is planned for Nov. 8-9. A limited number of spaces remain. Proceeds will help fund the upcoming music and art event at Oak Glen. Packages are available for groups of two, three or four persons, ranging from $227 to $298 per person. The cost will cover hotel accommodations and round-trip charter transportation. Fidelis Gamma talks plans

WEIRTON — The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators met at Eat ‘n Park in Weirton Sept. 4, with 14 members present. President Susan Cullinan presided, welcoming members. Members welcomed Cullinan back following her recent illness.

Chaplain Elaine McClung led in reciting the pledge, the prayer and a blessing prior to dinner. She shared an inspirational reading entitled “Reflection.” The August minutes were read by Ruth Fuller, who filled in for Secretary Margo Polk. In the absence of Treasurer Carolyn Allison, Cullinan read the budget report.

To prepare for Alpha Delta Kappa Month, Chairman Shirley Washam shared her plans and ideas for the marquees in the area. In the absence of Polk, who serves as altruistic chairman, Liz Pugh read the service hours report and announced monetary and non-monetary donations. Fuller welcomed members upon their arrival at the meeting under courtesy. Fraternity Education Chairman Janet Benzo shared an activity on Alpha Delta Kappa acronyms. Correspondence Secretary Eileen Snyder read two thank-you notes and reported the greeting cards sent to those in need.

Fuller reviewed and discussed in the capacity of chapter needs assessments chair, the needs for 2024-26. Cullinan will report the information and needs to State Membership Chairman Diane Stilwell. A discussion was held on the plans for the Tri-Chapter Christmas party Dec. 6. Cullinan shared information on the Ohio Valley district meeting, set for Oct. 25. She distributed the registration form for plans, registration, menu cost and the RSVP deadline.

Cullinan introduced a Christmas ornament project to be used as favors for the Tri-Chapter Christmas luncheon. A short work session will take place after the October meeting to assemble the favors. Hostesses for the meeting were Sandy Anderson, Benzo and Nancy Deters. The next meeting will be held Thursday.

Fall gospel meetings set

WEIRTON — The Weirton Heights Church of Christ will hold a fall gospel meeting from Oct. 5-10 at the church, located at 3169 Pennsylvania Ave. The speaker will be David Kinney. The activities scheduled for the kickoff of the fall meetings on Oct. 5 will include: Bible class, “Does it Matter What You Believe,” 9:30 a.m.; morning worship, “How Revelation Works,” 10:30 a.m.; evening worship, “Jesus’ Use of Scripture,” 6:30 p.m.

Kinney will address attendees on the following topics during the remainder of the week: Why the Gospel is Glorious,” Oct. 6; “Make in Whose or What Image,” Oct. 7; “Christianity and Denominationalism,” Oct. 8; “One God, Not Many,” Oct. 9; and “Staying Hungry,” Oct. 10.
