Nonprofits to hold block party, Thursday
STEUBENVILLE — Another year has already passed. And those affiliated with the Sycamore Youth Center and Aim Women’s Center are finalizing plans for the nonprofits’ second-annual fall block party. The event is scheduled to take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday on the green space next to the Aim Women’s Center, located at the corner of North and Fifth streets in downtown Steubenville.
The block party was started in July 2024. The event went so well that the two organizations decided to not just have it be an annual event, but rather, to make it an occasion which is also held every autumn as well. This event was created with the purpose of bringing together residents from throughout the community and offering them the opportunity to participate in an afternoon of not only fun and entertainment, but a few hours of community togetherness and sharing faith and love with neighbors.
According to Sycamore Executive Director Bobbyjon Bauman, this year’s mistress of ceremonies will be Alex Taylor of WTRF-TV. Taylor has a long history with the Sycamore center, Bauman said, noting she covered one of the nonprofit’s first news stories nine years ago.
“We are thrilled to welcome her back to help celebrate our community,” he stated.
During the afternoon, there will be live and uplifting performances by Elisha Fletcher, Gene “Minister of Truth” Shelby, the Mighty Disciples Mime Team, the Next Level Community Youth Choir and Evan Conn. Free food, including hot dogs, chips and beverages, will be available to those in attendance. There will be games and activities for children’s enjoyment, along with the chance to connect with neighbors and community partners, Bauman commented.
“This block party is designed to bring people from all walks of life together to enjoy an uplifting afternoon, while celebrating the partnerships between local organizations that serve families throughout the Ohio Valley,” Bauman concluded. “Everyone is welcome to stop by — even if it is just for a few minutes — and be a part of this special day of unity and joy.” For information regarding the programs and events offered at the Sycamore Youth Center, visit sycamorecenter.com.
