Wintersville women to talk fundraiser
WINTESVILLE — Members of the Wintersville Woman’s Club are preparing for their upcoming meeting at noon on Nov. 20 at St. Florian Hall.
President Cheryl Taylor addressed those in the club through a newsletter, informing everyone of the upcoming Holiday Splendor event, scheduled to take place on Dec. 7 at the Florian Event Center.
“We are now kicking into high gear for our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Taylor said.
She explained that while much of the work has been “going on behind the scenes,” including getting invitations printed, addressed and mailed out, she said members have been reaching out for vendors, program ads and door prize donations.
She is hoping to have those areas completed soon so programs that will be handed out on the day of the event can be completed, printed and assembled early.
During next week’s meeting, Taylor stated a sign-up sheet will be placed at the entry table listing areas and time slots that need to be filled by volunteers.
Help is still being sought for the basket drawing, 50/50 drawing, the television and wreath drawing, a wine table and a new drawing she called a blessing.
Taylor said the club was blessed to receive a dinner for four to Pastaio in Wintersville, with the meal to be prepared by Chef Giuseppe.
“As of this time, we are not able to get in the night before the event,” Taylor commented. “So, we will need helping hands that morning to get everything ready for our guests. It’s hard to believe this will be our 23rd year. Let’s make it great again.”
Pat Ketzell commented on membership, saying during the November meeting, new members will be initiated into the club.
Anyone who knows of a new possible member, should notify her at (740) 391-3933.
Members are encouraged to invite their neighbors or friends to the monthly club meetings during each regularly-scheduled meeting, Ketzell noted.
In regards to Wreaths Across America, it was announced the wreaths are being sold at the cost of $17 each. Fort Steuben Cemetery had fewer than 100 wreaths donated earlier this week and for Memorial Day.
Officials informed club members that 360 flags were placed on veterans’ graves by 4-H members. The board voted to sponsor three wreaths to honor veterans. Anyone who would like to join in with the club, can bring $17 for each wreath they would like given and give it to the club’s treasurer, Karen Hill. The wreaths will be placed Dec. 13.
Under environment, the club is still in need of buckeyes to do its project at a local school.
Another new recycling bin has been placed at the Fort Steuben Mall to accept televisions and computers. The bin will remain at the mall for a trial period of six months to see how well it does.
Under health and wellness, officials are still collecting used eyeglasses this year.
