WEIRTON — The Weirton Geriatric Center conducted a holiday food drive, collecting items for the Community Bread Basket, a nonprofit located in Weirton.

Organized by staff members Brianna Sims and Aimee Williams, the purpose of the drive was to assist residents in need during the holiday season. Not only did the center receive enough non-perishable food supplies to fill its van, it provided a cash donation to the Community Bread Basket as well.

The nonprofit organization expressed its appreciation to those all those who donated from the Weirton Geriatric Center, including family members of patients. The agency thanked the Serra Foundation as well, for being a supportive partner throughout the years. Officials stated the CBB could not continue to perform its mission of feeding the less fortunate if volunteers did not have such “great people in our community.”

Any individual or family that is in need of food or those who would like to make a donation, is asked to contact the CBB by mail at: Community Bread Basket, P.O. Box 154, Weirton, WV 26062 or by calling (304) 748-7595.
