Wintersville Women’s Club celebrate holiday
WINTERSVILLE — The festive sounds of the season filled the air as members of the GFWC Wintersville Woman’s Club gathered at St. Florian Hall on Dec. 18 for their final monthly meeting of the year.
President Cheryl Taylor opened the noon gathering with a warm welcome to members and several special guests, including Carolyn Glaub, along with the afternoon’s featured performer, Evan Conn, accompanied by his father, E.J. Conn.
The spirit of the holidays could be found with Mary Beth Allan providing a meditation and grace prior to the luncheon provided by Undo’s.
The afternoon’s entertainment was a highlight for many, as Conn, a student at Indian Creek Middle School who progressed his craft at the Center of Music and Art, serenaded the membership with a selection of seasonal favorites, country classics and an original composition he penned himself.
Armed with his guitar and melodic voice, his performance was met with high praise and enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Following the performance, the business portion of the meeting began with the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and Club Collect, led by Vice President Connie Cimaglia.
In a gesture to the day’s musical theme, Recording Secretary Allan took attendance by asking members to share the name of their favorite musical artist.
The minutes from the previous session were approved as distributed in the club newsletter.
Treasurer Karen Hill provided the financial report, highlighting the successful proceeds from the club’s Dec. 7 Holiday Splendor event.
Corresponding Secretary Michalene King updated the group on outreach efforts.
King noted birthday cards were sent to six members, thinking-of-you cards were mailed to Sylvia Giandomenico and OFWC Second Vice President Peggy Hickenbottom and get-well wishes was sent to Natalie Doty.
Reflecting on the club’s charitable endeavors, Taylor extended her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of Holiday Splendor.
It was noted the club approved a donation that was presented to three members of the Wintersville Fire Department during the event. Those funds were provided for the purpose of purchasing a specialized saw that will be used in firefighting efforts.
Members then provided two additional trays of cookies for the department’s various shifts during the holiday event.
The club’s commitment to veterans was on display as well, as Hill reported 12 wreaths — 10 purchased by the club and two by a member — were placed at Fort Steuben Burial Estates for Wreaths Across America.
Hill and her 4-H members assisted in the placement of the wreaths.
Looking ahead to the new year, the club voted to take advantage of a matching opportunity from Wreaths Across America, which doubles the number of wreaths purchased by year’s end.
A motion was made by Vicki Brozka and seconded by Cathy Thoburn to purchase 10 additional wreaths. The motion was passed by membership.
The group is looking forward to a creative start to 2026.
During the club’s next meeting, scheduled for noon on Thursday, those in attendnace will take part in a “positivity” rock project. Taylor explained members have been wanting to do this particular project for a while.
They will have that opportunity this week, decorating rocks which will contain uplifting messages. The rocks will be placed throughout the community.
Prior to adjournment, Taylor wished all members a Merry Christmas and happy new year.
