Last week, I noted how shocked I was by the sheer amount of spending by political action committees and independent expenditure committees in statehouse races for this primary period. As I reported last week, just five groups had spent more than $1.6 million in a 30-day period between March and April 22. “God loves a cheerful giver.” It’s one of those familiar phrases we hear so often that we almost wonder whether it only sounds like Scripture—like “God helps those who help themselves” or “Cleanliness is next to godliness.” But this one is the real thing. In 2 Corinthians 9:7, Paul writes, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Notice what Paul does not say. Jefferson County groups receive grants JEFFERSON COUNTY — Two Jefferson County nonprofit organizations have received grants through the Dale Hileman Legacy Fund and the Donald R. Myers Legacy Fund to Support Partnership in Appalachian Ohio. The United Way of Jefferson County was awarded a $750 grant from the Dale Hileman Legacy Fund.
