Steubenville Police Higher power: A woman at a downtown business requested police assistance, Saturday. The woman said she was at the store “to go on a free shopping spree that was broadcast by someone while looking at the sky.” When they asked her if she was OK she said she was, so police told her there was no free shopping spree. Gym issue: A Weirton man ended up in custody after an alleged altercation at a fitness center, Saturday. Police said Rhett W. Steubenville Police Hooligans: A woman at a mall store wanted to fight after another woman checking out said something about her children behaving badly, Monday. The woman checking out said there was “a group of children acting wild,” with one of them “older and on a handicap scooter, driving it recklessly” and almost hitting her. She said something, and the woman with the juveniles “began yelling and causing a scene before stating they could go outside and fight.” The loud woman took the kids and left before police arrived. Steubenville Police Contrarian: A city resident was cited for a sidewalk violation when they watched her walk into the middle of Adams Street right after she and three companions had been warned not to do it again, Monday. Police said Lamontea Whately, 32, 414 N. Sixth St., was cited for failing to use the sidewalk. Police said they had stopped the four in the 900 block of Adams Street and warned them that particular section of Adams Street “is dark, windy and a hill, (so) a driver coming down the hill could potentially not see them in time, resulting in them being hit.” After ...
